IT IS the tool that can help to save more lives in Southampton.

Members of Girlguiding say the defibrillator will be useful and will contribute to increase the chance of survival for people who have heart attacks.

The medical device was launched at the Guide Centre in Timsbury Drive, Maybush last month and it is now fitted outside the building available for everyone to use it.

Emma Lacey, 41, from Southampton and guider at the Girlguiding said: “Part of our philosophy is to help other people and offer services to the community and the defibrillator will help in that”.

Everyone provided with a code by the 999 will be able to activate the machine while waiting for an ambulance.

This is part of a project run by District Commissioner Eileen Howlett and it has been possible thanks to council grant and the Girlguiding’s fundraising activities.

The girls took part to a skipping initiative led by the British Heart Foundation and raised money to buy the anti-vandalism box for the defibrillator.

“The box will keep it safe and we will look after it, making sure that it is always ready for use”, Miss Lacey said.

Girls from the charity alongside residents in the district received a full training to use the life-saving machine.
