WITH just two weeks to go before her fight to get her beloved dog back enters the courtroom, the country's leading animal welfare charity have shown their support for Alexandra Hughes.

Major Hughes has handed over her 1,000-name petition to get Lunar back to the RSPCA after the Labrador Lifeline Trust, which took the dog, refused to accept it.

The retired Salvation Army officer from Eastleigh has been campaigning to get her Labrador back after the trust removed Lunar from her home last October without warning.

The charity repossessed the dog amid fears that it would be taken to Canada and claims that it was not properly cared for. Major Hughes denies this.

Major Hughes has received no word as to the whereabouts of the dog, which she had owned for two and a half years, or had any news about its welfare.

Chief Inspector of the RSPCA in Hampshire Paul Williams met Major Hughes and a group of her supporters, including former Mayor of Eastleigh, Councillor Peter Wall, at the Stubbington Ark to accept the petition.

He said: "The RSPCA would not act as the Labrador Lifeline Trust has. We have clear policies and procedures in place.

"We wish Miss Hughes a happy outcome with the court case and that Lunar is reunited with her at the earliest opportunity."
