A TINY New Forest foal was rescued by firefighters after it became jammed under a car.
Resident Veronica Harrison raised the alarm and took a mobile telephone photograph of the stricken animal under the parked Ford Ka at Thorney Hill.
"I think it must have just fallen asleep and rolled under there. Typical foal," she said.
"It was absolutely stuck underneath there. It was quite sensible about the whole thing. Had he panicked he could have pierced his stomach. But he didn't struggle or anything.
"I was with him about an hour."
Firefighters from Burley and head agister Jonathan Gerrelli attended the incident in Burley Road.
Fire station watch manager Graham Tucker said the foal would not have got out without help.
"We eased him out," he said.
"But we were ready to lift the car off him."
The foal suffered grazes around its eyes but was otherwise uninjured.
Its distraught mother had run off when the firefighters turned up, but a posse of men later rounded her up with a couple of other ponies and reunited her with the foal.
"It was a happy conclusion," said Mr Tucker.
