Police hunting the violent maniac who set a Hampshire taxi driver on fire have renewed their appeal for information on the anniversary of the attack.

Specialist search units and the dog support unit are today carrying out additional searches at the scene of the incident in Stoneham Lane, Eastleigh.

Officers hope to find items of blood stained clothing believed to be worn by the offender that have not yet been recovered.

It will be a year tomorrow that 52-year-old Derek Fletcher was brutally attacked shortly after picking up a passenger in Southampton Road, Eastleigh.

Mr Fletcher, a taxi driver for Eastleigh based Happy Cabs, was throttled by a piece of rope before having his trousers set alight in Stoneham Lane.

Mr Fletcher said: "I do still worry that the person who attacked me is still out there and needs to be caught, someone out there knows who was responsible and I would encourage anyone who has any information to contact the police as soon as they can."
