Pensioners face £300 bill due to council cuts (From Daily Echo)

Perhaps the council should apply for a children in need grant. They're going to need it.

An elderly friend of mine on old age pension says her choice is to either pay the council tax or heat her home. She has worked hard all of her life, paid her taxes and owns her own home in the Polygon.

This "rich pensioner" has barely enough money to eat. And Labour are increasing her council tax so they can give money back to their union paymasters.

Utterly Despicable.

Vote Tory in 2014 to get the best deal for all.
Labour have wasted a fortune by not working with IOW.
I won't bore you with many other monies Labour have wasted.

She should go and see Age Concern for benefits advice. She would be entitled to Pension Credit and possibly CT Benefit.

to say pensioner's council tax rebate is going to the unions is utter tosh! blame the government for reducing counci subsidies so severely that council's just cannot survive.

Those pensioners who can't afford to pay won't.... what was wrong is that ALL pensioners got the discount, including many who were able.

This is an out and out distortion by the Echo. A 2% council tax increase will be between £16.53 and £49.57 per YEAR. The vast majority at the lower end.

There are a very few rich pensioners who will lose the 10% discount but no pensioners on 'low fixed incomes' will lose this.

By the way, what is this mythical fixed income that only impacts on pensioners? Only Echo Editors can demand £100,000 plus pay packets with a pay rise whenever we want one. The rest of use are all on 'fixed' incomes. Of course I could be wrong, the Editor can prove it by telling us what he gets! After all the paper is totally facinated with what everyone else earns.

Considering while in the process of sacrificing Labour values at the alter of Thatcherism the New Labour government of which their local mobs hero politically dodgy Denham was integral part, they offered pensioners 75p per week pension rise while their bungler Brown was busy laying his filthy hands on national pension pot, it is hardly surprising that now the same party which is not inspired by likes of Hardy or Bevan but Tory from few centuries ago called Disraeli, if the Pensioners expected any compassion they should have known better.

Milliband’s mob which is controlling our Council are misleading people by hiding under the excuse of national financial crisis, which were triggered by their own government, which handed over billion of public money to ‘Bankers’ who mostly supported Tories; but they are asking mostly their own supporters like pensioners the price for their follies.

How can this be fair?

When even under Cllr. Smith led Tories the pensioners had comparatively better deal, although not exactly princely, should the NuLabourites not be thoroughly ashamed of themselves?

Hardly surprising that their faithful councillors Don Thomas and Keith Morrell have disassociated from so called Group led by Williams and Rayment, and with some socialist blood in her body Cllr. Satvir Kaur could not control her anger and let the steam out by telling few hard hitting truths at the last Council meeting. Perhaps she should also be joining Don and Keith to feel at ease with her decent social conscience.

I have already offered to take my neighbours grass cuttings & leafs & put them into my allotment composter.
there are many allotment holders who if approached would be very happy to do this.
If young enough as in a letter I've written there are spare plots which start of at £26.50 (all depends on the site)for 5 rods this is a garden size plot.
then you can go up to ten rods ( quite a lot) which on my site ( Borrowdale rd) which this year would cost you £53 next year it will be £63 & will remain at that for the foreseeable future.
this will be the charge by the council for green waste collection & you'd get vegetables (potatoes) fruit freshly grown for a small price for the seeds.
the 5rods would get you the plot & all the seeds or sets that you could plant for less than the charge for Garden waste so come on and join us if your fit enough or capable.
This is just an idea to save paying the council for waste they compost & sell so making double bubble

I am thinking seriously about committing a imprisonable crime..
Then at least I will get 3 square meals a day, which is 3 square meals more than I get now. Also the benefit of no bills to worry about, and live in company 24 hours a day.
I would be so much better off in JAIL... It is a serious thought...

Contacted Action line to find out about the green waste charge they knew nothing about it.
]They said if it was going to happen they would have been told first.
I suggested they look at the Echo webpage which they did .
The poor young lady thought it meant only OAP's would get charged I told her the truth & asked as I put out no Green waste do I have to pay?
The only answer she could give me was other authorities that do this you have to sign up to get collections so she thought it would be this way here if it was happening?

My friend put a chunk of his wages into the company pension scheme alog came Brown & stole a large chunk of it .
he got back less than he paid in so sorry not all OAP's are rich some get just the state pension

To avoid the green waste charge, just take it to the Council recycling point at Dock gate 20. If you can't do it, get a friend, neighbour or relative to do it.

I may not always share their views but both are very intelligent and well informed regular contributors on this site. They do not deserve abuse from those who may feel hurt with truth, at least from their point of view.

Dear Lone Ranger,

Actually I had some prominent NuLabour members in mind.

Pensioners like Pat Alan (if he is still alive) Richard Bates, Danis Harryman, and Ken Street etc. and many other old dears who spent their lives contributing their pounds to both The Labour and also Conservatised NuLabour, while unlike the current arrogant crop of councillors who keep on insulting pensioners by calling them Rich Tories, they did not pocket mega money while serving the party and the people.

By the way as a socialist you should be telling the whole truth. Dispicable ConDem Coalition is not the only government that is making financial life of Councils difficult, your beloved Blair and Brown were in power for 13 years busy not helping but caping the councils just like juntas of Major and Thatcher before them
