Labour reveal potential candidates (From Daily Echo)

Just arrived as a new story at 4:47, very relevant to the local by-election, and is placed 14 stories from the top – well below 2 other election items that have been there most of the day.

Am i the only one thinking Redbridge on the outskirts of Eastleigh is maybe stretching things a tad...

didate/ so arguably not very relevant at all - when Labour announce their candidate I am sure they will receive the appropriate prominence in reporting.

While respecting NuLabour's right to select its candidate, I have no doubt this selection is going to be a typical NuLabour stitch up.

Otherwise how could they not have short listed Alan Lloyd?

Obviously independent and objective views, telling the truth, believing in Labour values, working hard for ordinary people and not always towing the line of virtual dictators within his party, which are some of the attributes of former Labour candidate for Eastleigh are not appreciated by Milliband and his advisors like John Denham.

So although Milliband and his mob keep on saying that they have learnt from past mistakes and NuLabour is dead, in reality Blairism is still the real agenda of Conservatised NuLabour.

That is why short list for candidate is dominated by people connected with media, who may be experienced in spinning and making jokes for fooling the people.

This short list in itself may also be a sham, I suspect numbers have been made up to keep Alan Lloyd out, to provide free run for establishment's favourite side kick.

Yes on the basis of own devil is preferable to other's devil I still be glad if NuLabour wins, but have to be honest this short list stinks of stitch up and yet more proof that thatcherised NuLabour has not changed

I would have to disagree, Labour haven't yet announced who will stand, having some hearsay about this person or that person may stand isn't really of interest to anyone.

Tomorrow they will get their 5 minutes of fame at the top of the page, I'm sure ;-)

Then why so much news coverage of UKIP even before they announced their candidate?

Yesterday I spoke to two friends who are NuLabour MPs, and found out that I was wrong in thinking that John Denham is working in Eastleigh on his own, or with only nominal team. In fact they all are putting in massive effort.

Only party rules for selecting candidates have caused delay in selecting candidate.

In my view by keeping Alan Lloyd off the list NuLabour has made a mistake, but that is different subject.

I am convinced for NuLabour it won't simply be 5 min fame on front page, but they will get plenty of votes as well as will UKIP which will damage Tories.

In my opinion they are all having 5 minutes of fame as come tomorrow when more candidates are announced, the headlines will change.

.. just scrolled back through all the stories to last Monday.

Three stories relating purely to UKIP, all before they announced their candidate.

Not one single story about Labour. And now this relegated to near the bottom.

Don't get me wrong, I will NEVER EVER vote for Labour again as they totally failed to bring down the war criminal Blair, and thus have the blood of hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis staining their hands.

All I'm doing is pointing out the Echo bias.

I can understand why The Echo have made a point of UKIP, they are allegedly the next party to replace Lib Dems according to many News sources.

There was bound to be much excitement about what they would be up to and let's face it, The Echo NEED to sell papers.

I don't often disagree with your posts, so am going to wait until ALL parties have announced their candidates before judging wether there is any bias.

Hi, you have no reason to apologise. Your point was very valid.

It is not only Echo but how our so called free press behaves. They exploit our society's comittment to the principle of free press, by abusing the power to form public opinion through biased coverage of events.

For example press has created the myth that UKIP is the only party which is against EU. Because UKIP is financed by certain types of rich people who are on political right and have jumped on this bandwagon only few years ago.

Fact is that many on left of centre have always opposed EEC which evolved in the EU. People like former Southampton MP Bryan Gould, Tony Benn, Arthur Scargill and many others about whom press has printed many lies
