Boorley Green development decision slammed by Eastleigh by-election candidates
12:17pm Tuesday 19th February 2013 in Politics
By Luke Tugby, Senior reporter
EASTLEIGH by-election candidates have slammed the decision to allow 1,400 new homes to be built on countryside in the constituency.
Last night councillors voted through the proposals that would see the massive development built on land at Boorley Green near Botley.
Despite last ditch pleas from residents who said the development would “tear the community apart” Eastleigh Borough councillors gave the green light to the controversial scheme.
- Plans for 1,400 homes given green light
- Boorley Green at centre of by-election
- Developers plea to work with residents
But the move has been condemned by candidates in the upcoming by-election.
Conservative hopeful, Maria Hutchings, said: “I've consistently campaigned against inappropriate development in Eastleigh.“Eastleigh Lib Dems have ridden roughshod over local resident's concerns by voting for part of their wider plan to build 5,000 houses on green spaces - despite their campaign promising to protect green spaces.
“The Lib Dems must now come clean about the reality of their plans to the people of Eastleigh”
Labour candidate John O'Farrell said: "This development is the worst of both worlds.
"The council have failed to take seriously the concerns of local people and the loss of green spaces, and also failed to address the lack of affordable housing.
"While Tory chairman Grant Shapps and Lib Dem Leader Nick Clegg carry on with their phoney war of words, thousands of young people in Eastleigh can't take their first step on the housing ladder."
UKIP candidate Diane James added: “The sites selected by Eastleigh Borough Council are seriously flawed in terms of choice.
“They are completely inappropriate in terms of local infrastructure and with 50 per cent of sites being greenfield they mean the loss of much cherished community's and leisure facilities.
But Eastleigh Borough Council's Lib Dem leaders said that they had “saved scores of green spaces in the borough” by pressing ahead with the plans.
Council leader Keith House said: “The Conservatives say they are in favour of green spaces but their by-election candidate stays silent, the neighbouring MP supports 10,000 new homes, the Conservative Planning Minister, Nick Boles instructs us to concrete over open land and their county council spends money on itself rather than much-needed traffic improvements in Eastleigh.
“By contrast Liberal Democrats take the responsible action on development, ensuring future generations can afford to live in Eastleigh while protecting green spaces across the borough from the threat of Tory in-fill.”
Members of the council's planning committee last night voted in favour of the Boorley Green development, which will also include a new primary school, shops plus sewage and road improvements.
The decision was made at around 12.45am this morning, despite hundreds of residents packing out the meeting at Kings Community Church in Hedge End to voice their objections.

The European Union auditors have not been able to reconcile the financial books of the EU for the past 18 years. It would be a very unwise investor who bought shares in a company where the auditors had been unable to reconcile the financial books for 1 year, let alone 18. Furthermore, Mr Cameron should explain why Ford closed the Southampton factory at the same time the EU granted £80 million to Ford to start manufacturing Transit vans in Turkey, a country that is not even in the EU. Another example of Cameron's duplicity. Vote UKIP.

When you watch programmes like BBC Question time & they talk about the housing shortage only Nigel Farage will mention immigration.

It’s time to ignore what the LIBLABCON say
Lets face it these parties have all had their day
Our politics need rearranging
So go out and vote UKIP lets sweep them away
For the times they are a changing
Not one of them listens to our point of view
They’d sooner give our cash to the EU
So lets kick them out and try something new
We can’t afford this lot remaining
Political rethink is long overdue
For the times they are a changing
They lied about Lisbon and promised a vote
There all Europhiles and in the same boat
Their treachery just bring a lump to my throat
As each other they just keep blaming
So send them a message and let them take note
That the times they are a changing
We will no longer tolerate lies being told
Tax breaks for the rich but more tax for the old
Ruled from the EU and our birthrights sold
They ignore us when we are complaining
If we all vote UKIP their out in the cold
For the times they all need changing

Jolly voting weather
We are all Europhiles
We’re very clever
And lie to you all the while
You fell for our promise especially the CAST IRON trick
We’re all from Eton, and you lot are all too thick.
If you think I’ll claim back powers,
You haven’t got a clue
We’ll hand the UK to Merkle,
There is nothing that you can do
No referendums Changes through on the nod
I am the PM and I’m a duplicitous sod
As for immigration
I know it gets on your tits
I will flood the nation
And pay their benefits
I am from Eton; I am one of the ruling class
If you don’t like it, you can just kiss my ****

Said Dave “I’m off to Europe to ensure they cut the budget
If me and Merkle both collude I know that we can fudge it
I’ll come home draped in glory, we’ll gain lots more vote for sure
The voters just wont realise that we’ll be paying more”
Alas poor Dave don’t realise that voters aren’t that dim
Unlike the Tory faithful there not taken in by him
The UKIP vote will turf him out we know they marked his card
This Cameron and Merkle scam is simply a charade
And once mass immigration comes here early on next year
The cut backs and the bedroom tax will stoke the Tory fear
They’ll see just what a large amount of votes that UKIP stole
And be haunted by the prospect of a future on the dole

Vote for us, were not like them
But I would say ignore them please
Remember the tuition fees
And what about the Labour lot
Who’s secret immigration plot
Has worked exactly as designed
When they the Lisbon Treaty signed
Your dreams alas will turn to dust
If in these parties you put trust

I love all the photo opportunities on your face book page.
I can't believe you're Prime Minister!
Please continue 'chillaxing' while we take over your country.
We're thinking of renaming it 'Little Eastern Europe'
Don't worry though we're very democratic about these things.
You'll get a vote on the 27 seat committee that decides which name.
Incidentally can you tell me why you bothered to fight two world wars to keep the Germans out, only for you to be invaded instead by Poles, Lithuanians, Estonians, Latvians, Czechs, Slovaks, Romanians, Bulgarians & Hungarians ?
The Germans would have had to take your houses at gun point.
Whereas these East Europeans just need say they're going to stay, then get pregnant, then get free social housing. Retired ones can even get their pensions topped for free.
Brits pay in for 40 years. They pay in for 0 years. Lovely. You couldn't think it up. Many thanks for your generosity
Meantime we have our sites set on Switzerland. They're the richest country in Europe per capita, but we'll see if we can change that.
How dare they have the nerve not to join our democracy!
Best regards

PS Many thanks for putting off a referendum for another 5 years by which time your people won't have had a say in the EU for 43 years!
Yes the biggest changes ever to happen to them & they get NO SAY WHAT SO EVER in any of it.
That's just the kind of democracy we at the heart of the EU love to see.
I guarantee a cushy job here for you when you're fired.
Not that you'll need a job with that fortune that Daddy's left you offshore in a tax haven ;-)

It's a ludicrous suggestion.
You need to be more concerned with the £70,000,000,000 we'll be giving to an organisation who can't even get their accounts signed off, namely the EUssr over the next 5 years because Cameron has put off a referendum for 5 years.
Meantime here it's pay freezes for NHS staff & cuts everywhere in Police, food inspectors etc etc

Quote:- ....... During a debate about Europe at the Foreign Press Association - which was discreetly taped by the hosts - Farage was asked by former Europe minister Denis MacShane what he had received in non-salary expenses and allowances since becoming an MEP in 1999.
"It is a vast sum," Farage said. "I don't know what the total amount is but - oh lor - it must be pushing £2 million." Taken aback, MacShane then joked: "Is it too late to become an MEP?"
Farage insisted that he had not "pocketed" the money but had used the "very large sum of European taxpayers' money" to help promote Ukip's message that the UK should get out of the EU.
.
Whilst i accept that i should be more concerned about EUssr etc they are not the ones standing for election. In addition they are not the ones posting about "where Hitler failed"

In your head, did the Lib Dem MPs cackle manically as they schemed their dastardly plan to cover England's green and pleasant land with concrete?
Who anywhere, good or bad, wants green spaces to be replaced by concrete? Why are you possibly claiming the Lib Dems would therefore? Your claim makes no sense.
Wild shot in the dark, but is this more Labour propaganda? Like the one about more debt meaning prosperity? I see Ed Milliband was in Denmark the other day, on his one man mission to bring the world to the brink again with debt. Is his next stop Greece? Has no-one told him there is actually a real life limit to borrowing? And why should our children and grand children pay for our over spending greed?
Politics today is spin. It's why the country is such a mess. Tony Blair and Nu-Labour ushered in spin led politics. The Lib Dems, bless their naivety, make their decisions on what's best for the common man. Unfortunately that doesn't work in a world of spin. Spin beats decency in a tabloid world.
The good people of Eastleigh normally buck that trend. Decency does beat spin in some corners of this proud and noble country.
Here's hoping that happens again. I guess you're hoping for huge public spending based on fantasy land finances though.

Why else do they persist in shouting the lie that they are protecting our greenfields and countryside, even while voting disruptive development on fields at Boorley Green, Pylands Wood etc.
None of this, of course, will prevent the naive and blinkered from continuing to support them.
