PLANS for a multi-million pound swimming pool and leisure complex in Hampshire have been officially submitted by a borough council.

The project at Sarisbury Green, if approved, will include a 25-metre swimming pool, a gym with 100 pieces of equipment, a cycle spinning studio and a dance studio.

The £7m centre would be built on the site of the old Coldeast Hospital, off Barnes Lane.

Fareham Borough Councillor Connie Hockley said: “Many residents have told us that a new leisure centre and pool is needed in the western part of the borough. This is the latest step in our plans to deliver this.

“If approved, this application will deliver fantastic new health and fitness facilities, as well as enhanced open space for the whole community to enjoy.”

A decision on the project will be made by the end of February 2015 and if approved Fareham council hope the leisure centre will open the following year.

Balfour Beatty, who built the aquatic centre for the London 2012 Olympics, will construct the complex.
