Interesting that they said it was a 2 horse race between con and lab but lab have been pushed the third. The rest of the city fell because of a pathetic low turnout, shame on those who did not vote...

Thankfully we have Conservative in power still, would be a shame if our area fell to the lies of labour. Still, at least you have one of your own in your ward. She at least lives a bit nearer Portswood than Millbrook, where she did nothing for the local people and why she was dumped out last year.

The UK is in bad need of democratic reform.

Very disappointing! We would much prefer a local resident with a real interest in our area to represent us in Council.

This result just shows how utterly stupid the first past the post system is. If you add up the non-right-wing vote (Labour + Lib Dem + Green + Trade Unions/Socialists Against Cuts) it comes to almost double the Tory. Personally, I can stomach either Labour or Lib Dem but detest the Tories, and know many people who feel the same way. I'm grateful for the change in council administation and glad I picked the right candidate to tactically vote for this time (what else can you do under first past the post) but I personally feel Linda Norris is completely irrelevant as any form of local representative. It was a wasted opportunity to not reject first-past-the-post a year ago.

That's the problem with tactical voting - it's too complicated to get it right collectively. Probably a lot of people voted tactically for the Lib Dems because they thought they had the best chance of beating the Tories, and others voted for Labour or Green because of associating Lib Dems with the Government. Result, we have what most of us didn't want. Bad luck for Keith Reed. I'm no supporter of the LDs but he's the only one of the candidates who's put in any work in our area.
