THE £3.7m expansion of ABP Southampton's dockside warehouse facility has been recognised for its consideration for the environment and the local community.

The 6,000 sq m extension, completed in July by Midas Construction Southern, won a silver Considerate Constructor award at a ceremony last week.

The project was also rated as “excellent” by BREEAM's environmentally friendly building rating in acknowledgment of the method of construction and the building’s design.

The Considerate Constructors Scheme Awards recognise construction sites for improving the image of the industry.

Daily Echo:

The construction sites, companies and suppliers agree to abide by strict regulations and to care about appearance, respect the community, protect the environment, secure everyone's safety and value their workforce.

Gideon Aymes, project engineer at ABP Southampton, said: “We are proud of this project and it’s a fantastic example of the investment we are making in the Port of Southampton.

"Midas are worthy winners of this award for going beyond statutory standards on this site and demonstrating their support for the surrounding community and minimising the impact on the environment.”

Midas achieved its best ever Considerate Constructor scores for the Import Services warehouse expansion.

The new warehouse follows a number of successful projects completed for the port, including the major £6m investment to refurbish Mayflower Cruise Terminal.
