WHEN Brian Hughes dusted off his clubs and returned to the golf course for the first time in nearly 30 years you may have expected him to be a bit rusty.

But the Hampshire hot-shot is celebrating an unbelievable one-in-a-million feat – just two months after taking up the sport again.

The 51-year-old from Romsey, a former Welsh international youth amateur, sank two holes-in-one in just 30 minutes during two separate rounds at Ampfield Golf Club.

He played the first shot at about 9am on the 13th hole of the three-par course while playing with friends, before hitting the second screamer just half an hour later while competing against wife Sarah.

Brian, a stepdad-of-three, from Campion Drive, said: “The first one landed in a hole with an enormous clatter and the people there were shouting and hollering.

“I saw the second one bounce and it went out of sight and when I walked up to the hole it was there. My wife was so excited because she’s never seen a hole-in-one before!”

The IT systems architect gave up golf in the mid-1980s to concentrate on his university degree and career.

Alex Donohue, from Ladbrokes, said the feat had odds of more than one million to one.

Club captain Kevan Vear said: “To get one is always amazing but to get two in the same day is unbelievable!”
