ARSENAL fans travelling to their team's clash with Southampton today are advised to avoid the A3 after a cyclist died in a crash earlier this morning.

The major road through Hampshire will be closed for “several hours” after the collision, which happened on the southbound carriageway near Liphook at 7.30am.

It was reported that a cyclist was killed after being involved in a collision with a car and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police officers are attempting to contact the man's next of kin.

The crash site is just after the Hindhead Tunnel and a diversion has been set up to allow road users to join the A31 after Guildford, following the solid black triangle diversion symbol towards Farnham.

After Farnham motorists can join the A325 southbound towards Bordon and then rejoin the A3 near Longmoor.

Alternatively, they should take the M3 from London straight to Southampton.

Saints take on Arsenal at St Mary's Stadium at 3pm and motorists are advised not to travel on the A3.
