A WOMAN is today fighting for life after being hit by a car in Southampton.

Police were called to Lodge Road at 10.05pm last night after reports of a road collision.

The ambulance service rushed the 22-year-old woman to Southampton General Hospital with what have been described as 'life threatening injuries'.

The victim, who is from Southampton, is currently described as being in a critical condition, having suffered a serious head injury.

A spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) said crews were called at 10.01pm sending a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance and an ambulance officer.

She said: “One patient sustained life threatening injuries as a result of the crash.

“After treatment at the scene she was taken to Southampton General Hospital.”

But Hampshire Constabulary spokeswoman said: “We can confirm we attended a road traffic collision at 10.15pm. Reports are that it was a pedestrian and a car.”

Officers closed off the road outside the Lime Bar pub for three hours whilst they investigated, taping off the area around the zebra crossing.

A 19-year-old male who was driving a silver Vauxhall Corsa was questioned at the scene by officers, but was not arrested.

He was uninjured following the incident.
