A MAN carrying a baby and holding the hand of a five-year-old child was seriously hurt in a road crash.

Police are appealing for the driver of the vehicle involved to come forward so they can find out exactly what happened.

According to officers, the 53-year-old pedestrian - along with the two children - was on Milton Road in Portsmouth when he involved with a collision with a green Ford Focus estate.

The driver of the car, who is described as a white man, stopped and helped the injured pedestrian, but left before emergency services arrived.

The 53 year-old man was later found to have a broken ankle, and the baby he was carrying was left with cuts to his face.

The incident happened at 9am on Saturday, January 16.
