A CAR overturned on a busy junction in Southampton after a crash involving an ambulance this morning.

The grey Skoda was lying on its side at the crossroads of Tebourba Way and Oakley Road.

An ambulance was in the middle of the road nearby, with the front of it badly damaged from the collision.

It is understood the emergency vehicle was on a 999 call at the time of the crash.

Hampshire Fire & Rescue and South Central Ambulance Service were quickly on the scene.

A man and a woman have been cut free from the car, although there is no word yet on any injuries.

A second, red Skoda was also involved in the collision and was parked up nearby. The driver, a woman in her 40s, was shocked but unharmed.

Traffic on Tebourba Way was being diverted while Oakley Road was closed following the collision, which happened shortly before 9.20am this morning.

It finally reopened just after 11am.
