RAILWAY users between Hampshire and London faced severe disruption after two men were hit and killed by trains in separate incidents.

All lines between Woking and Surbiton are blocked following the incidents, which happened at 12.30pm at New Malden and 12.45pm at Woking yesterday.

Services from London Waterloo to Weymouth were terminated and started at Basingstoke, while services from London Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour started and terminated at Guildford.

Disruption lasted until the end of the day.

A South West Train statement says: "You can use your tickets on London Buses, London Underground, Govia Thameslink Railway and Great Western Railway, CrossCountry, Tramlink, via any reasonable routes to complete your journey.

"We are sorry for any delay to your journey."

South West Trains have said that all stopping and express services between London Waterloo and South Coast Destinations only started and terminatd at Basingstoke.

Other services are expected to be disrupted by up to 2 hours as some trains may also be diverted via Cobham & Stoke D'abernon and some may be cancelled which is expected to continue until the end of the day.

British Transport Police spokesman said: "Just before 12.30pm today, we were called to New Malden station following reports that a person had been struck by a train. 

"Officers are on scene alongside paramedics from the London Ambulance Service however one man has sadly been pronounced dead. 

"Officers are now working to identify the man and inform his family.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
