WANTED – a willing volunteer to help continue bringing sunshine into the lives of elderly folk in Chandler’s Ford.
The Sunshine Club has been providing a social lifeline for pensioners in the area for decades, but now, as we report today, the club will be forced to close in just two weeks if a volunteer cannot be found to take over as chairman.
For once this is not a case of funds, as with so many services under threat from lack of finance.
It is a matter of responsibility. The members of the Sunshine Club are too old themselves or just unable to take on the task of running the Friday afternoon sessions.
All they need then is someone, perhaps just a little more sprightly, to volunteer to help keep their activities going.
In many ways the cause mirrors so much of what is needed in the rest of the county, if not the country.
Where money once bought all – although not in the case of the Sunshine Club – now it is a case of stepping up to the line to volunteer if our communities are to function.
This paper suspects there are many who will step forward in Chandler’s Ford now the appeal has been made.
That’s how communities work together, after all.
