Bad decision, or just a bit off the wall?

It was never meant to be more than a pop music video, but when the late Michael Jackson’s classic Thriller video was shown to youngsters at one local school, it sent them home with the shivers.

Angry parents are reported to have complained after teachers at the primary school showed the youngsters part of the music video in a lesson.

But when they went home, the children, aged between seven and eight, at Berrywood Primary School in Hedge End, started having nightmares.

Now the head teacher has written a letter of apology after complaints from parents of the children in the two Year 3 classes.

In many ways it comes as a comfort to know that children can still find scenes of zombies and werewolves, albeit dancing ones, a little frightening in an age when we are told that youngsters are bombarded with graphic images and immune to shock.

The school will now think twice about what it shows to its pupils, no matter how worldly wise they may pretend to be.
