It was the shaggy dog story that touched the hearts of millions and now may have had a happy ending.

Our story of the dogs abandoned in an appalling state near to death’s door in the Hampshire countryside was seen and made headlines across the world.

It sparked outrage from dog owners and animal lovers from all over – most demanding the culprit who dumped the sad animals be brought to justice.

But while the investigation to find the owner continues, the animals are enjoying an incredible revival and a new lease of life.

Thanks to the care and love of RSPCA staff and volunteers, the scars suffered by the poodle-cross dogs are beginning to heal.

That is obviously down to the remarkable work of the charity but also in no small part to the generosity of Daily Echo readers.

You helped raise almost £4,300 in donations, all of which has gone to the RSPCA to help care for the animals.

It will also help officers continue to fund their remarkable work and help Dave and his fellow dogs start a new life – well looked after with a future free of cruelty and stress that every animal should enjoy.
