All change for Saints at Leeds
8:00am Tuesday 30th October 2012 in Sport
By Adam Leitch, Chief Sports Writer
Nigel Adkins will make wholesale changes for tonight’s trip to Leeds despite being a win away from the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup.
The Saints boss takes his side to Elland Road in need of a victory for a timely confidence boost and to secure a place in the last eight of the competition.
However, that will not be enough to persuade him to abandon his policy of making major changes to the team for the League Cup.
He said: “It is a very, very quick turnaround.
“In the Capital One Cup we have utilised the squad and we will do that again on Tuesday night up at Leeds.
“We have got a squad of players that all work very, very hard and we’ll utilise the squad on Tuesday evening.”
Adkins may have wished to have given the full first team a run out to try and get a win and some much needed confidence in the bank.
However, even though Saints have a blank weekend coming up with the West Brom game switched to a Monday for live TV coverage, the long trip north today comes just 48 hours after a gruelling Premier League fixture against Tottenham.
As such, and with league points being the absolute priority after a start that has seen Saints lose seven out of nine since their return to the top flight, no risks will be taken with first team stars.

Rickie will be rested after the shift he put in on Sunday, as will Steve Davis. I would probably make Lallana play - but as for the rest it's anyones guess!
It's cold up here this morning - thermals recomended!
Whatever we do tonight I doubt it could be anywhere near as bad as when Harry played the kids at Mansfield!
Cup shock on the cards? Well it would be anything but a shock if we lose...but I hope Adkins gets one over on Warnock!

Just a few helpfull pointers:
1 We all believe in "The higher they get, the fewer."
2 I don't always agree with what I say and although I once thought I was wrong about this, I was mistaken.
3. It's very bad luck to be superstitious.
4. Thank God, most of us are athiests.
5. None of us give a sh!t about skunts, but if you do, please give it to them.
6. As I've said very many times on here - never repeat yourself.
Er...um...I had some more but I let my mind wander and it hasn't come back yet.
No worries, others on here may add some more - but I must warn you very few of them are as sensible as me.

The truth is that I can offer no suitable advice in the circumstances, it is far too complex for any of us to have any worthwhile input. I like a bit of banter but that is as far as I want to go. Getting too involved leads you into saying things that you neither intend, or will later regret saying them, don't want to go there.

For me, I have been on about you guys developing your own local talent who won't then leave as quickly when a bundle of cash is thrown their way.
And the old chestnut that your fans need to back your team. Something that Pompey fans have over your fans; and you need to be honest with yourselves on that issue.

Back to the game today, Hope T Lee has a good game, really think we need him making those intelligent runs he made last season freeing up space for the likes of Lallana (the new Fabrice Fernandes) and Mayuka to run into.

I have backed my team all my life. The only time I have ever left a match early was a couple of times in the 90's when I used to take a disabled chap and he couldn't handle the crowds at the end. Even then I still tried to pursuade him to stay until most had left. I've got a home in Palma de Mallorca and am here now. I went to see Mallorca v Real Madrid Sunday night and they started to stream out with 15 mins to go. I went to Goodison Park earlier this season and they streamed out before the final whistle. It's what many do at all clubs.

Good idea playing the reserves' that will boost the confidence no end.
Taxi for Adkins !!
Or perhaps like me he is a 'I love Nigel, he got us back to back promotions to get us back into the Premier League earlier than expected and has earnt the chance to manage us at this level, sure he will make mistakes and have to learn from them which hopefully he will do quickly, with the resources he has available to him, but he has my full support and confidence and I stand behind him and am willing to see how he has fared after 38 games' fan.

I'll bear that in mind, thanks for the heads up.
Kent. I don't think anyone would be happy with relegation just as I don't think anyone is happy in getting only 4 points from 9 games.
Supporting the manager and the team does not mean one should be happy about results, or the mistakes that have been made.
But it does mean getting behind the manager and the team, not just when we are winning or gaining points, but also when we are struggling and dropping points.
We all know that football is a confidence game with players and managers alike under a lot of pressure. Booing Guly every time he steps on the pitch, or calling for a manager to be axed are NOT the ways a supporter SUPPORTS his team as they increase pressure and dent confidence, which is the opposite of what us fans should be wanting to do. Instead we should get behind the team, support them, lift them so that they can give their best to us.
I'm sure the results so far are not what Nigel wanted for the club, and I am sure he is doing his best to get things going in the direction we ALL want. I am confident he can do that. You may not be....
However, it is far too early to be calling for his head just yet. He has to be given time to sort things out, and I hope he is given that time.
Sacking Nigel this early is not the answer. Calling for him to be sacked is simply a short-sighted knee-jerk reaction that is simply not smart.
Sack him and then what? Bring in another manager obviously, but would you then be calling for that manager's head after 10 games if the results don't go our way? By that rationale you would have 4 managers in a season. Or would you give the new man the rest of the season to put things right and then get rid of him at the end of the season? There are simply no guarantees that a new manager would bring results, yet it is also uncertain whether Nigel will succeed.
But what we do know is that Nigel has brought us success in the last two seasons and who as a young manager has a fantastic track record. 424 Games 220 wins 81 draws and 124 losses. There aren't that many managers with a better record.
Far better in my opinion to keep faith in Nigel for the season, and then evaluate the options, which could mean sacking Nigel at the end of the season, or could mean giving him another season in the Championship and if promoted again possibly a half-season back in the Premiership.
And if we got relegated then I won't be happy about it but I would continue to support the team, just as I would had we been relegated to League 2.
I want results to go our way, I want us to win trophies and progress up the Premiership table but I'm not a fairweather supporter and will support our team no matter what league we are in and no matter who our mananager is. I just feel that Nigel can do the job asked of him if he is given the chance. I hope that people like you will allow him that chance.

Unlike yourself Kent, who seems to be a somewhat deluded 'we've just got promoted and so should dominate the Premier league and if after 9 games we aren't top of the table the solution is 'Sack the Manager' because I know little about football' fan.

Can I interject before I nip out.
I would honestly take Redknapp back; but I am not a Saints fan. What would be the main reasons for not taking him back?
If the bigger picture is the club; HR would surely be the man for the job if NA got the sack; but I can't say I would see that happening.
We were slightly amazed when he came back at FP; but it was a kiss n make up between the chairman and him at the time over egos really.
Quite a few fans were not happy; but the majority accepted him as the best man for the job.
Similar scenario in a way.

No worries, others on here may add some more - but I must warn you very few of them are as sensible as me.
However, copy EVERY post that Seedhouse writes, show it to your English teacher and watch him or her shake her head in disbelief whilst saying something unprintable along the lines of 'how did he become so rich and influential?'
As for your English, which is far better than most of us can manage, I have just two comments:
1. With the exception of WUMs (wind-up merchants) and skates (do they have schools in Portsmouth?) whose English deserves to be corrected in the most sarcastic way imaginable, enjoy posting and don't worry too much about the English. It's only pedants like me and Osprey who will get offended, so your errors will be providing good therapy - I'm slowly getting cured, although Osprey is suffering badly.
2. Your first post was virtually error free. The only change you could have made to improve it is to have added the word 'HAVE' between your first use of 'JUST' and 'REGISTERED'. 'I registered' is the past simple, used when something is clearly finished (it happened in the past). For example, 'Yesterday, I registered .....' However, as you have used the word 'JUST', it's better to use the present perfect (which is like the past simple, but you add 'HAVE/HAS' and if you use an irregular verb like 'TAKE', you use the past participle form of the verb (TAKEN) rather than the simple past form (TOOK) .....
...... 'Yesterday, I TOOK the bus to town.'
..... 'I HAVE JUST TAKEN the bus to town.'
I hope that helps you. Who knows, it might even provide our resident skates with their first ever English lesson. Pity none of them are able to read.

Of course as a Pompey fan myself; I would not want him to go there.
The other thing preventing him going there; and this could be the big one. Is that is there any money left; and is there plans to recoup some of the "given" money. In which case HR would not fit the bill at all unless he felt he could get a fair chunk from selling some of the real talent at the club for wads whilst rebuilding with a better team.
As Pompey fans; we are often told that we are blind stupid with all the dodgy owners and can't see the wood for the trees.
However I do feel that more and more of the Saints fans are slowly waking up to the idea that just maybe the "given" money has not really be given and is perhaps more "loaned" money.

What your new teacher meant to write was;
You need to insert the word HAVE (or the shortend I've) before the first JUST and then perhaps use a full stop, or add something like....and would like to let everyone...
I have just registered. Just to....
OR
I have just registered and would like to....
If you follow his instructions you actually end up with

........ which would make you sound retarded - which you don't really want at all.
What your new teacher forgot to mention is that there have been many famous authors from Portsmouth; but none of any note from Southampton. I think that is very revealing.
Another thing. You will also notice that when and if Nigel Adkins does get the sack; lots of fans on here will write things like:
We just lost our manager (not - we HAVE just lost our manager
Good luck on your journey to improve your English through footy forums.

Kent141 is probably not even a football fan as most of his comments are purile at best.
Adkins is the Saints manager and I hope he stays for the rest of the season as I think things will improve. Even if they don't, I will still support my team.
Some of the moronic speculation of who might replace Nigel?
Why on earth would we want Harry? The man buys teams and deals in backhanders and will shortly be found out.
Benitez is paranoid about everything and will shortly disappear from the football scene as he has been found out.
I personnally have no particular interest in discussing this sensibly as I want Nigel to stay and bring it around.
If we were to replace him I am confident that Cortese will bring in someone who would also be immense, but as I say, I do not thnk it necessary yet.

What your new teacher meant to write was;
You need to insert the word HAVE (or the shortend I've) before the first JUST and then perhaps use a full stop, or add something like....and would like to let everyone...
I have just registered. Just to....
OR
I have just registered and would like to....
If you follow his instructions you actually end up with
I just have registered..........
........ which would make you sound retarded - which you don't really want at all.
My suggestion is to follow another sport though; say Rugby or Cricket.

If they have a longer cup run they risk losing players through injury.
NA hasn't the experience to survive on his own in the PL and in the short term needs an experienced coach like Glen Hodde to help him find his feet and strengthen the defence.
Saints haven't improved one bit in the PL, the two goalkeepers brought in are even worse than KD.
NA is a nice guy but he is living on past glory.
I would much rather NC brought in someone to help NA rather than sack him.
Watching WBA last Sunday I can't see anything other than Saints losing by at least 2 goals.
How long is this going to go on before someone does something ?--- to do nothing and keep on with the same old routine is to accept it.
I'm afaid that NC will get out of bed the wrong side one morning and sack NA out of hand without giving him the help he deserves

The best thing the Saints can do tonight is lose and concentrate on surviving in the Promised Land (PL).

So, most of it is probably complete nonsense and the rest isn't the slightest bit controversial. What's more, his English is reasonably good, making him hardly typical of the average poster on here. However, copy EVERY post that Seedhouse writes, show it to your English teacher and watch him or her shake her head in disbelief whilst saying something unprintable along the lines of 'how did he become so rich and influential?' As for your English, which is far better than most of us can manage, I have just two comments: 1. For example, 'Yesterday, I registered .....' However, as you have used the word 'JUST', it's better to use the present perfect (which is like the past simple, but you add 'HAVE/HAS' and if you use an irregular verb like 'TAKE', you use the past participle form of the verb (TAKEN) rather than the simple past form (TOOK) ..... ...... 'Yesterday, I TOOK the bus to town.' ..... 'I HAVE JUST TAKEN the bus to town.' I hope that helps you. Who knows, it might even provide our resident skates with their first ever English lesson. Pity none of them are able to read. COYR! Dirty Leeds!SaintsCroatia wrote: As you could probably guess from my nickname, I'm a Saints fan from Croatia.
