Saints' luxury boot camp

The Four Seasons Hotel The Four Seasons Hotel

Saints are sparing no expense in their bid to get a much needed victory – they are preparing for tomorrow’s crunch match against Swansea in one of Hampshire’s most luxurious hotels.

Under pressure manager Nigel Adkins desperately needs a win against the Welsh side and, after showdown talks with Nicola Cortese, managed to secure a two night away trip for his team ... despite the game being at St Mary’s.

Saints have taken the first team squad, management and backroom staff to the exclusive Four Seasons hotel in Dogmersfield, near Hook, where rooms cost in excess of £250 a night.

An executive suite at the hotel – which boasts its own canine ambassador, a labrador dog rejoicing in the name of Oliver Beckington, above – will cost over £560.

The team will train in nearby Aldershot but have use of the hotel’s luxury spa and tranquil country grounds.

Adkins is hoping this peaceful backdrop and time away will galvanise a Saints squad that is low on self belief after a bruising start to the Premier League campaign.

“We’re going to change it around a little bit, change the stimulus round,” he said.

“That’s important because sometimes you can be coming to groundhog day.

“We reached ten games, we were always going to look to do that.

“Change the environment, change the mindset and make sure we get focused for the next game.”

Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire is designed around a Grade I heritage-listed Georgian manor house, built in 1728 as a private residence.

Dogmersfield Park dates back to the 11th century, where it was acknowledged in the Domesday Book. Rich in historical interest, it was here that King Henry VIII first met his future wife, Catherine of Aragon.

If we don't win this weekend then I expect their next boot camp will be a travelodge.

Begs the question where did Barcelona stay before the Celtic game. Perhaps we could ask Swansea to stay there tonight.

Lets hope it's worth it, @ £250 a night ? The Swansea game is a game we can surely win. They have lost their last 3 away trips without scoring.
At least it will make the skates extremely envious @ £250 only something they can dream about. COYR WIN WIN WIN !

Teams can be over monitored and the focus is moved from natural play to keeping to the game plan. Natural talent is sometimes restricted by the very act of observance. Known as schrodingers law it means we should not wasting our time looking for his famous cat which may or may not be there, (like saints next win),until we have arrived preferably with the points in the bag at five o'clock tomorrow evening. Until that time arrives I will suspend judgement and enjoy the game. Come on you saints!!

Hope this re-ignites the players and gets them focused on winning games again. I like most fans want NA to succeed but a poor result tomorrow might just be the final straw despite to so called speculation that his job is safe until at least the end of Nov. I would however ask who could come in and do better with the players we have????? Anyway on a more positive note I fancy a 3-1 win for Saints tomorrow to start the revival under NA and hope to look back at Xmas and wonder what the fuss was about. COYR

Management psychology to break problem periods when things arent going well. All good standard management stuff, well done Nigel.

Don't knock the man, or the club, for this approach. Its well meant and may be effective. We shall see. The only difference in this respect between us and Chelsea is that they would have gone to Bora Bora or the Maldives. Saints go to Dogmersfield.

Keep behnid the team everybody. They need to know we are there and right behind them.

I'd much rather the £1.000's spent at the hotel had gone towards the wages of an experienced, respected PL coach to hep you strengthen the defence you and Cortese should have reinforced in the close season IMO that would have a longer lasting and better effect than a a night at a luxury spa --- but at least you are trying something different and I praise you for that.
I trust you have evaluated the risks, many people, if not the majority have difficulty sleeping in a strange bed and wake up tired, I know this is a risk you take at most away games but at home?
If, as I read Swansea have lost their last three away games without scoring, if we lose or only scramble a draw tomorrow then clearly the spa idea wouldn't have worked and we will still be at square one --- maybe, just maybe you and Cortese may then consider the proposal I have been banging on about all season!

Good idea to take them there. Get the team to gel again, reinvigorate them with shared targets and break the downward direction of the last month. Let's hope that translates to three points come tea time.

PS. Anyone here think that NC might just have negotiated a discount on those room rates?

So what in fact you ARE doing is painting an image of Pompey fans are sad, desperate misfits whose club is in such distress that their only joy is to be found impersonating fans of a club down the road. It's a bit self-defeating, isn't it?

Why not get yourself a girlfriend or something?

You've taken my advice and have at last changed something, --- your pre-match preparations. What is there to lose? -- only your job!!
Thank God Nigel has at last taken notice of your postings. Without doubt if he continues to listen to your wise words of wisdom will will be EPL champions by the end of the week Fa cup winners by Tuesday and champions of all of Europe by a week tomorrow. Now do one you boring nob. Remember You Rzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz .

The Genius that is Nigel Adkins knows his stuff, break out of the routine, shake it up,and stuff swansea.
The mans a diamond,24 carat.
Honest, wears his heart on his sleeve, admits his faults and failings, and fronts up all the prickly questions with dignity.
This set of players owe him,NC, and more importantly Markus a performance that will make jaws drop.
He will turn it round and I want him to stay.
Just got to find a system that gets our best players on the pitch .
I trust him,I have bought into the dream, and we will succeed.
Time to man up-grow a pair and back the boys.

Then he'll have achieved more than you've managed in two months of posting on here you desperate freak.

If you're looking for a team to support for when Pompey finally bite the dust why not do what most people in Kent do and support Man U? Or Chelsea? Or Charlton? Or Gillingham? Or Brighton? Anyone but us would be great, thanks.
you are a silly skunt retford, obssessed with pompey, come on Bury.
Let's have a quick show of hands to force this issue to a head: is there anyone on here who DOESN'T think Kent is a Pompey fan?

He may well believe he is the fan of several clubs. I think he has dissociative identity disorder with two or more 'personalities' - each of which has denial or at least severe memory imparment of the other/s.

Bear in mind he is likely bi-polar and regularly depressed and may be suffering from an eating disorder or substance abuse - common symptoms.

There is no sense in pointing out misdemeanors as he will switch to another identity which will have no memory of the deeds.

Try and keep him on and active as the diagnosis is not complete. As it's fairly unusual, he's being studied by a group at Southampton University. In particular, they want to find out if he has any visual hallucinations or recovered memories of being in trance states.

Note also that this condition can often be traced back to trauma in childhood - so maybe a little more tolerance would be in order.

Luxury boot camp? Give them a good pampering they have truly deserved it bless um! Why not give them a gold badge too whilst there at it, if I was in charge id send the lot of them labouring for builders on a cold damp muddy site! On £7ph, that will teach them the true meaning of hard graft, maybe they would appreciate there position in life, ungrateful detached from the real world Bunch of fairy's, I'd make it a regular thing too until they can stand up and actually make a good go of it, I don't expect them to be world beaters, just show a bit more willing,
