Lawrie McMenemy will tonight receive one of football management’s greatest accolades as he is inducted into the LMA Hall of Fame.
Saints’ 1976 FA Cup winning boss will be given the honour at the League Managers Association’s gala dinner at Wembley.
He will also have his name officially added to the list of managers to have overseen 1,000 or more senior games.
McMenemy, who also led Saints to second place in the top flight in 1984 and into a number of European campaigns, will become only the 34th manager in the Hall of Fame.
That includes all past England managers, regardless of length of service.
He is also only the 20th manager added to the 1,000 club.
The Hall of Fame nomination comes from a panel of officials and managers who have also noted McMenemy’s outstanding contribution to charity work, much of which takes places in Hampshire.
And also the achievements driven forward by the Lawrie McMenemy Centre for Football Research in Southampton at Solent University.
A delighted McMenemy, 76, last night said: “It’s great to be in a group of managers who have done 1,000 games."
