Le Tiss predicts big things for Shaw

Luke Shaw Luke Shaw

MATT Le Tissier has hailed the Premier League’s youngest player for his part in helping to turn Saints’ defensive record from the worst in the top four divisions into one of the best.

The Saints legend has admitted that 17-year-old left back Luke Shaw “could go a long way” in the game – but hopes the increased publicity surrounding him won’t see him move to a wealthier top flight club.

“He’s come in at a time when results have improved and that will do wonders for his confidence,” said Le Tissier of the England youth international. “He looks a very good prospect for many years to come, the boy looks like he could go a long way.

“He won’t be as fit as the lads who are 24 and 25 but it doesn’t take too long to catch up.

“His fitness is getting better after playing the full 90 minutes in the last couple of games."

Shaw has never worried us. Playing a 17-yr-old in defence could smack of desperation, but he looked settled from the beginning. And he got more involved going forward against Reading. Demonstrates how good the academy is.The idea is that all age groups play the same way, so that players will arrive seamlessly into the first team.

Credit to our Nigel for not bringing him through too quickly. He waited until he was ready, and for the fixture list to get a little easier, and then eased him in.

It must have been so tempting, when Foxy was having a mare and we were playing Clyne on the left and Yoshi on the right, to think "bung the kid on". But that would have been the wrong thing to do, long term. We are Southampton and we do things the right way these days.

Amen, brothers and sisters.

The spotlight of the sporting world is on them as, armed with the sword of righteousness, they and their supporters head to the High Court to press their case that Fratton Park is a bit of a cackhole and not really worth that much.

if Shaw moved to a ' bigger ' club he would not see first team action for years, he would spend most of his time warming the bench. So far this season we have played Shaw, Ward Prowse, Reeves hell even Gazza has taken the Goalie spot. If these players were playing for any other club they would be lucky to get a start. How many prem teams do you see play there youngsters in there first team?. And we all know Arsenal will be coming soon trying to snap some of our prospects up!.

As for Norwich and Wigan coming for Shaw, they are smaller than us!. Plus i do not think it's a youth's life long dream to play for Wigan or Norwich if your not born there. I know some people just want to cause arguments, but please make you could have made you insult more intelligent.

Yeah, I'll bet Portpin aren't happy with the administrator, given they've named the Trust as preferred bidder.

Why is Chinny so desperate to get the club back? It's going to take him years to get any money back. Surely life's too short.

We're in danger of focusing too much on that dire little club in south-east Hampshire with the public loo of a ground. I think that Luke Shaw will be big provided he stays with Saints.

Players like Steve Williams in the past and Wayne Bridge more recently, took career dives when they left us. Oxo and Walcott haven't won anything yet apart from big piles of cash.

future debts? well when not if they build up more debts they will just use their old trick and pop into admin for a while so they dont have to pay it!

what i cant understand is, this court case didnt just appear out of the blue(few) did it? birch had lots of time to sort out the bid and his case, so why do they need a 28 day adjournment? is this not a case of birch taking the club for every last penny before he shuts it down? as for agent channers, why is he so desperate to get his own admin team in place? hes offered to fund the club till the end of the season if his team take over and wants to buy back the club himself. he also offered £500k at court to get his admin team in when the club entered admin.

out of the 2 parties wanting to buy the club agent channers will never pass the fit and proper test, and the trust havent got the money, also try finding anyone in poopey who is fit and proper!

Luke Shaw does appear to be more defence minded than Bale was when he first started.
It is the fact that he is a better defender than Fox that would allow them to play together if needed.
The injury to Adam would not have been the greatest disaster against Sunderland as we could have played Fox + Shaw together on the left and fired crosses into the centre for all and sundry to get on the end of.
Adam scare possibly over so that weapon can be put back in the armoury for later.

another argument.. . . . . . . ..
Put Punch on the left for a game and confuse the RB of Sunderland when we play a winger.
Why must every team play the wide players contrary to their natural kicking foot?
No one does it for the full back.
Maybe just switch during the game for a short while?
If anyone is worried about messing up the Clyne/Punch co-operative, remember how well Clyne played at LB? Switch him too if you must!

Shaw is a success story so far this Season - but I challenge him and the rest of the Team to have more possession - more goal scoring chances - and more shots on target in our AWAY games and start picking up more points.

At our last game - it was noticeable that lots of players have improved. Jose Fonte played a good game and has settled down. Guly came on as a Sub and seemed a different player and Jason Puncheon is like a new signing.

WE MUST GET ALL 3 POINTS against Sunderland and we need a noisy crowd from the start of the game and then we go TOGETHER AS ONE to Fulham where we will dominate and FIGHT for the WIN.

WE will go to Stoke and make the Players feel at home to play for the WIN and we will unsettle Arsenal with a 1-0 WIN.

SAINTS have improved in the last few weeks - Nigel has got the team playing better defensively. Kelvin was confident and like his old self against relegation fodder reading.

NOW WE MUST FIGHT AND IMPROVE OUR AWAY PERFORMANCES.

WE DEMAND SUCCESS.

WE ARE SOUTHAMPTON.

RED ARRRRRRRRRRRRRMY.
THE SAINTS GO MARCHING ON-ON-ON.

blue(few)white and soon dead, this week NA took his saints squad down to the local hospital childrens ward to cheer up the youngsters. whilst there a poopey fan was at his kids bedside in poopey shirt and had a poopey flag up. now the saints squad were happy to stand there and have photos taken with him and by the looks of it they had a good laugh, but in true question of sport style, what happend next,
1 they players said goodbye and left on good terms with handshakes all round.
2 they poopey fan started saying how he supported the bestest team in the world etc etc and the saints players laughed at him and walked away.
or
3 the saints players gave the poopey fan a 125th year saints shirt which he then put on over his poopey shirt (yes saints on top again!) and stood for photos with said shirt on.

answers on a postcard to.
