Hampshire’s George Bailey hit a 36-ball 45 but still finished on the losing side as Sri Lanka completed a 2-0 ODI series victory against Australia in Melbourne.

Chasing a Duckworth-Lewis revised target of 122 in 15 overs, Australia lost by three runs after finishing the rain-affected match on 119-3.

Former Hampshire star Glenn Maxwell made an unbeaten eight from just three balls after arriving at the crease when Bailey was dismissed in the final over.

Off-spinner Maxwell had started the match with an opening spell of 1-23 from four overs as Sri Lanka made 161-4 after losing the toss, captain Bailey taking two catches.
