JEAN Le Cam admits he will not sleep tonight as he aims to pip Hampshire’s Mike Golding to fifth place in the Vendee Globe around the world solo yacht race.
The Frenchman has a narrow lead over Golding, and knows to finish fifth off the French port of Les Sables will see him bank 40,000 Euros – 10,000 more than Golding would get for finishing sixth.
“I have gusts of wind up to 35/40 knots and I am not in the hard part yet,” Le Cam reported this afternoon.
“I expect the worst from the Bay of Biscay, the state sea is going to be awful.
“After all that I have endured in the Vendée Globe, I did not think I deserve this!
“I would like to reduce my speed and take a little break but I cannot because of Mike.
“I must manage my advance to ensure that 5th place.
“Clearly, I will not sleep until the arrival tomorrow.”
