HAMPSHIRE’S James Vince provided one of the few bright points as England Lions were thrashed by Victoria in today’s 50-over friendly at the Junction Oval in Melbourne.

Vince opened the innings with Warwickshire’s Varun Chopra and was second top scorer with 43 as the Lions were restricted to 225-8.

Vince and Chopra (19) took the score to 68 without loss before five wickets tumbled for just six runs with skipper James Taylor, Ben Foakes and Ben Stokes all out for ducks.

But No 5 bat Gary Ballance struck 86 to help the Lions towards respectability.

Their total was still nowhere near good enough, though, as Victoria romped to victory on 227-2 off just 36.1 overs.

Opener Rob Quiney struck 122 off 104 balls , while former South Wilts batsman Chris Rogers (23) helped him put on 96 for the first wicket in only 11.1 overs.

Peter Handscomb (67) not out then helped Quiney take Victoria to the brink of victory.
