Connolly bags first Pompey goal
8:42am Wednesday 27th February 2013 in Sport
David Connolly
FORMER Saints striker David Connolly scored his first Portsmouth goal last night.
The ex-Republic of Ireland international thrust Pompey ahead after 22 minutes in the home League 1 encounter against MK Dons.
But Shaun Williams equalised five minutes later, and Pompey were unable to find another goal.
The draw leaves them technically 13 points adrift of third tier safety, and fifth bottom Oldham have two games in hand.
Portsmouth, whose last league win was against Shrewsbury on October 20, have now gone 22 league matches without a win.
That is only three games away from equalling the club record set back in 1958/59.

It only interested 9 thousand pompey fans at the actual game!
Good to see the echo taking an interest in lower league football though! Grass roots and all that!

I have nothing but respect for Connolly, our faith in him was well rewarded. I hope he gets paid for his efforts down there.

As he is still being 'paid off', we could even 'lend' them Nigel to mastermind their (almost) great escape.

I've watched Barca twice in the last week and not been in impressed on either occasion doubt they would be able to live with the footballing powerhouses of Bury and Hartlepool.
I like the idea though Stras perhaps we could rename them Saints Reserves

...Saints didn't have the humiliation of 2 administrations...65 million odd in debt...no fans etc etc.
It was good to see Bury, Colchester and Hartlepool all won too....as they are all decent tax paying Clubs.
The end is nigh for our fiddling friends....before they rise from the dead.

After all, let's be honest, you could send out Barcalona and the best they could hope for would be to achieve relegation.

Maybe, for fun, one of the Leibherr heirs could use a little of their fortune, say, $60-odd million here or there, to 'save' the skates, rename them 'The Portsea Island Fishfiddlers', make them play in red and white stripes and use them as a Saints' feeder club.
Of course, the concept might have trouble passing the fit and proper test, but since when has that been an issue?

I realise FA rules and all that wouldn't now allow it, but wouldn't it be wonderful if NC could offer - for free - this group of players to help the skunts limp their sorry way to relegation. After all, let's be honest, you could send out Barcalona and the best they could hope for would be to achieve relegation WITH the points deduction imposed this season rather than being carried over to next.

He's far too good for them. Of all the players we've had to let go he is the dark horse who could've maybe still cut it in the Prem.
