Jason Puncheon reckons Nigel Adkins would make a good replacement for sacked Reading manager Brian McDermott.

The Royals parted company with McDermott on Monday, and Adkins is among the favourites to take the reins at the Madejski Stadium.

Adkins, who has been out of work since his shock sacking at the Saints in January, would have to reach a settlement with his former club first But Puncheon said: “Reading’s out there for him, I suppose. His name is getting touted about and I think he can do a job for them.

"Nigel's proved that while he was here [at Southampton] and I think he will get another job and I do wish him all the best when he does get that."
