Former Saints striker James Beattie could be ready to take his first steps into management.
The 35-year-old, who helped Saints to the 2003 FA Cup final, has spent this season as player/coach at League Two club Accrington Stanley, and is reportedly interested in the vacant managerial position at the club.
Beattie became a legend on the south coast for his prolific spell leading the line for Saints before a £7m switch to Everton. He also won five England caps.
