Rickie Lambert insists he is not overawed by his England call-up and is ready to grab his chance with both hands.
The Saints striker trained for the first time with his superstar teammates yesterday before facing the press for the first time as an England player.
England boss Roy Hodgson gave the clearest hint yet that Lambert is set to feature at some point during tomorrow night’s friendly against Scotland at Wembley, and for the 31-year-old that presents an amazing opportunity.
He smiled: “I’m enjoying it and trying to take everything in. I’m trying to get here again and trying to do well and impress, and hopefully get another chance.
“I’m always confident I can score goals, I’ve always said that. Whoever I’m playing, whatever game it is, if I get a chance I’m confident I can take it.
“My main focus is trying to play well. And if I can score a goal that’s brilliant.”
Hodgson dropped a big hint that Lambert will get some game time tomorrow by saying: “I am sure when Wednesday evening is over I will know much more about Rickie Lambert.”
