SAINTS keeper Artur Boruc will be the centre of attention at Wembley tomorrow night.

He stands between England and a place in next summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil as group winners.

Roy Hodgson’s men need to beat Boruc and his Polish colleagues to pip Ukraine to top spot.

The game has brought back memories of 40 years ago when England failed to qualify for the 1974 World Cup after being held 1-1 at Wembley by Poland.

Back then, Polish keeper Jan Tomaszewski – famously dubbed “a clown” by Brian Clough – produced a series of great saves to break English hearts.

Boruc is out to create some history of his own tomorrow.

Asked about becoming known as the second Tomaszewski,” the man who has kept five clean sheets in seven Premier League games this season quipped: “I wouldn’t want to be him.

“I’m Artur Boruc and want to be remembered in history by my own name.”

Poland have no chance of qualifying for Brazil after losing 1-0 in Ukraine on Friday night.

But Boruc insists they will still be putting up a fight at Wembley.

“We look more and more solid, despite failing to qualify.

“I won't cry over spilled milk. We have to get up, we have a very nice match on Tuesday.”

Tomaszewski does not expect his fellow countrymen to repeat the heroics of his team in 1973.

With undoubted world-class talent such as Robert Lewandowski and Jakub Blaszczykowski in their squad, they clearly have the talent to cause Hodgson a few headaches.

However, they lack the all-round balance needed to be a major force on the international stage again and Tomaszewski feels England will confirm their superiority.

“There is no pressure on Poland and England will be very stressed because they have to win, otherwise their supporters won't forgive them,” he said.

“To win this game would be like gaining a football Oscar for Poland.

“We already have some world-class players and if the rest of the team get a miracle at Wembley they will be regarded like that as well.

“If England don't win, Poland will be famous again.

“But England are the favourites, as they were in 1973, and this time I think they will win, 3-1.”
