Mauricio Pochettino hailed his team’s bravery as they collected a memorable 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Adam Lallana scored a late equaliser to hold David Moyes’ side and further underline that Saints’ place in the higher echelons of the Premier League table is no fluke.
Robin Van Persie had given United a first half lead but Saints plugged away and got just reward for their efforts and those of their fans whose support was inspirational with their late leveller.
Pochettino said: “I think my team today was very brave.
“They put in an amazing effort, a great effort. We are playing against Manchester United at their home ground and that is never easy so I really want to congratulate my players for an amazing afternoon.”
He added: “I think getting a very good win at Anfield and a very positive draw here is amazing for this team.
“I think it definitely certifies the quality of this project and how we want to move forward.
“For the younger players it gives them so much belief that they can go on and do amazing things.”
