Sharp on target for Royals
7:00am Monday 16th December 2013 in Sport
SAINTS loanee Billy Sharp scored his second match-winner for Reading in only his third league start for the club.
The striker celebrated his first Royals start earlier this month with the only goal at home to Charlton.
He repeated the trick to give ex-Saints boss Nigel Adkins’ men a 1-0 win at Huddersfield yesterday.
Prior to those three starts, Sharp had been restricted to just three short sub outings after joining Reading on loan in August.
Huddersfield manager Mark Robins said: "I am frustrated because we have done everything except the bit that Billy Sharp does.
"That's what strikers get paid for and that's why they get the plaudits they do."
Sharp is currently with Reading until the end of this month, but his loan spell will almost certainly be extended.
Mauricio Pochettino has previously made it clear that Sharp – whose St Mary’s contract runs through to the end of the 2014/15 season – does not have a future at the club while he remains in charge.
"He was never a player who was part of my plans. Our squad is closed, we have the right number of players so there is no coming back,” Pochettino said after Sharp had linked up again with Adkins at the Madjeski Stadium.
