Kev’s eyeing an end to old club’s record

Daily Echo: Kevin Gibbens Kevin Gibbens

FORMER Sholing skipper Kev Gibbens will be looking to break his old club’s unbeaten league record should tonight’s Sydenhams Premier showdown at Gang Warily beat the weather (7.45pm).

Ex-Saint Gibbens has been appointed Blackfield & Langley player/manager until the end of the season following the departure of Glenn Burnett, who is joining Sholing’s coaching team.

“Kev always struck me as being too laid-back for management material, but I think he’ll take the job in his stride,” said Diaper.

“As I found at Otterbourne, being a player-manager is never easy because you’ve got to set an example by being nine out of ten every week.

“But any team that’s got Kev Gibbens in it is going to be enhanced and we’ll need to be at our best to get a result.

“Blackfield have lost Steve Mowthorpe, Nathan Lynch and Scott Sampson since Glenn went and we’ve put in notice of approach for TJ Cuthbertson, but they’re the league champions and there is never a good time to play them.”
