Cork backs Lallana for World Cup

Daily Echo: Jack Cork Jack Cork

JACK Cork expects Adam Lallana to go to the World Cup if he continues his current form. Lallana’s trickery was behind Saints’ best moments against West Bromwich Albion and his finishing was rewarded with the crucial goal – his second winner in as many games.

Lallana has now bagged six goals in 23 games for Saints this season, compared to three in 30 outings in 2012/13.

Saturday’s goal was his 44th in the league for Saints in 218 appearances.

With Theo Walcott out of the World Cup with a serious knee injury, Cork is confident Lallana will be on the plane to Brazil.

He said: “It would be silly not to take someone like Adam along, especially with Theo getting injured and playing in a similar position. “The way he’s playing and the form he’s showing, I would think he will go. It would be good to have that option on the bench.”

Cork believes Lallana has gone up a level this season, thanks in part to the confidence that came with winning his first England cap. “Last season he was good but it was our first in the Premier League - this season he’s been exceptional,” said Cork. “Some of the stuff he’s been doing in games has been amazing. “Fair play to him, he’s been working hard and I know how much it means to him. He’s really flourished.

“We see it in training all the time and now it’s great to see him getting the praise he deserves.

“He’s playing some of the best football of his life at the minute.

“He looks so confident and his goal was taken well after a great piece of skill from Gaston.”

Ramirez’s introduction for Cork was decisive. Within four minutes of coming on, the Uruguayan produced a wonderful, incisive one-touch pass from which Lallana scored. It deflected more than a little attention from Ramirez’s new hairstyle, his braids provoking plenty of dressing room banter from his teammates. “A couple of them have come out, they’re looking a bit scruffy and Gazza’s (Gazzaniga) trying to tie it back up for him – it might be gone next week,” laughed Cork, who was more impressed by Ramirez’s cameo.

“Gaston shows flashes of brilliance, he’s an amazing player when he’s on form and does stuff like that,” he said. “He has so much quality, it’s just trying to get the best out of him and see how we can use him.”

Cork is hoping Saints can finish the season as strongly as they started it following this result.

“We’ve had a tough month against some big teams and it’s great to get out of that bad run and start moving forward again,” he said.

“We looked at a few clips from our play at the start of the season to see what we could do differently from the bad patch we had at Christmas time.

“We just tried to go back to how we were, to get the pressing back, to have that energy and aggression.

“We did that so big congratulations to the lads for getting back into it. West Brom turned us over (twice) last season but we played some good stuff at times.”

Corky is right about Adams improvement this season.
I had always fealt that the burden of the captaincy was to much for him in his first Prem season.
The added pressure of an injury lay off didn't help.
He has physically got stronger since last season which allows him to hold the defenders off while he produces those sublime twists and turns.
The call up has given him a major boost in confidence,he now rallies his troops on the field.
He uses this confidence now to rightly challenge some of the cr@p decisions being doled out by certain refs.
What he must remember to do though, only challenge when he has the captains arm band on. i.e. look to see if Kelvin is in goal, first.

Jack Cork can also praise himself for the form he's been in, he wants to play in the first Team and works hard and gives 100% concentration and should on his form keep out Wanyama.
Lallana has class and to think he's hasn't peaked, he's a crucial Team member who works hard for the Team and brings in others for scoring opportunities, the opposition has worked out Saints Play so now that means Saints have to be 100% aware where as when Saints first introduced it opposing Teams were running around like headless Chicken.
Saints Know that the opposition have done there homework so Mopo and his Staff will be working on a plan to prepare for counter attacks especially after a corner and the opposition break.

I hope all Saints Supporters can read Maurico Potchettino's summing up of his first year in the Premiership on Saints site or in last Saturdays game Program, he treats everyone who works on the Playing side as one big family including the Chairman, I lived in Spain for 12 years until last year and I know a lot about Spanish culture and he has brought this to the Club and everyone loves it, he has created bonding and loyalty like never before to the Club and all the Players are mates who visit each others homes and socialise together.

The changes to the Club is wonderful time for all Supporters and we love it and appreciate it, we all hope that we can keep this Very Special One for many years to come COYR

It's like his belief has caught up with his talent. There isn't a better English player anywhere, right now.

I think you've misread him, RS. I think 'release' means allow Morgan to get forward more. So, play Cork and Wanyama together with Morgan in front of them. It's an idea, but one which means dropping another player (Davis, Rodriguez or (surely not) Lallana.

Thanks. I really did misread it, didn't I?

I suppose the idea might make a kind of Plan C or D, for when we want to do something 'different'. I'm not sure it should be Plan A or even B.

I think huge credit must go to the coaching staff (past and present). It's not just Adam but look at how other players have improved in recent years.

To list just three:
Rickie - top L1 player to international
Jose - how many of us doubted his ability to make it in the prem?
Jay - starting to show patches of real class.

All the academy players who are now part of the first team squad have also developed, of course.

There's no limit to how much each of the current squad can improve with the training/coaching set up we now have.

When we reach the FA Cup Final and, despite Luke being injured, beat Chelsea 3-2, Fox will have a blinder and win MotM for superbly marking Oscar out of the game. Of course, that'll be tough on our second-half hatrick hero, Guly.

As usual you have decided to put a negative slant on a trivial matter, we are all aware, that Poch fears, that whatever he says will be corrupted into something he has or hasn't said through poor translation and misinterpretation, we know you have a dislike for Poch but you have never explained why to any extent.

If you haven't read it yet see

Read it carefully and think about what he says.

You would, I guess, prefer a British manager, fair enough, but if you can name one that could be doing a better job than Poch at an affordable wage, please let NC know.

Lets put it like this I wouldn't buy a second hand car from him

I hope to be wrong but when NC brought him in he said it was to take us to the next level That must mean qualifying for Europe initially in the Europa league and i don't believe he will even if he stays for 10 years
IMO he over trains players and does not give them the required recovery time This leads to tired performances

I have tried for a year to lioke him but it doesn't work for me

As usual you have decided to put a negative slant on a trivial matter, we are all aware, that Poch fears, that whatever he says will be corrupted into something he has or hasn't said through poor translation and misinterpretation, we know you have a dislike for Poch but you have never explained why to any extent.

You would, I guess, prefer a British manager, fair enough, but if you can name one that could be doing a better job than Poch at an affordable wage, please let NC know.

He uses this confidence now to rightly challenge some of the cr@p decisions being doled out by certain refs.
What he must remember to do though, only challenge when he has the captains arm band on. i.e. look to see if Kelvin is in goal, first.

Adam has indeed maintained a high level of consistency this season which has inspired his team mates and that is what being a good captain is all about. I think he will be on the plane and deservedly so.

It has been said by some Saints fans on here in the past that they don’t want our players starting for England due to the risks of injury for the next club games. The flip side of international selection is the motivation a player gets and the desire to step up another level in their performance. Adam is only going to get better for us on the experience of a world cup.

I will leave that to Velly, he is the expert. As I said you are entitled to dislike him and I suspect that there are a number who feel the same, some won't forgive him as he usurped NA, who was very popular, but he wasn't actually responsible for that. I don't "love" him as you put it, I respect him for what he has done so far, Decembers results would indicate that he is isn't perfect and the way Football is at the moment it wouldn't take much for him to be the next one out the door, would you like that threat hanging over your head all of the time? I admit I was teasing you to say you don't like him coz he's a foreigner, there are those that do have that attitude, believe me. I suspect your fear is that he isn't up to the job, well, OK, only time will tell, but it's best to show support, that will be better than posting constant worry about it. You never know with a bit more success you may get to appreciate him if not like him. For me the jury is still deliberating.

As usual you have decided to put a negative slant on a trivial matter, we are all aware, that Poch fears, that whatever he says will be corrupted into something he has or hasn't said through poor translation and misinterpretation, we know you have a dislike for Poch but you have never explained why to any extent.

Read it carefully and think about what he says.

You would, I guess, prefer a British manager, fair enough, but if you can name one that could be doing a better job than Poch at an affordable wage, please let NC know.
No you have that wrong I don't particularly care what nationality he is Why is it such a sin to not like someone ? I've already said I enjoy the style of play and I seldom have an issue with his team selection There is just something about him that irritates me

Osprey find me 10 posts over the last 5 years from me that can be constued as negative
Osprey often uses a throwaway line on people questioning their positivity towards their football club in order to try and enforce his own opinions and give them greater gravitas. He is right on the odd occasion.
Judging by reactions not often enough! I just pose food for thought, I have no intention of bullying anyone into anything, but I do ask for 100% backing for the Club and the team, not too much to ask is it?

I do not think Potchettino is infallible but his concept of the style he wants in Playing Football has caught the attention with compliments to thousands especially in the Media and nation wide so he must be doing something right.
Just because I lived in Spain 12 years doesn't mean I'm bias towards Spain I'm not and anyway he's Argentinian and we are suppose to hate the Argies also I'm not a racist. If Saints can win games with a very good Manager and very good Players I don't care what country they originate from all I want is what's best for the Club that I have watched and supported for 40 years and to win everything that's possible COYR

I'm sure, before the season ends, we'll have 'fun, fun, fun' and there will be 'heroes and villains'. Furthermore, once we've won the Cup, we'll back again next season to 'do it again'.

Will we win it three times in a row? ....................
