Saints keen to hold on to Cork

Daily Echo: Jack Cork Jack Cork

Saints are determined to hold on to midfielder Jack Cork in the face of interest from Swansea.

There are widespread reports that Saints have turned down a bid of around £3m from the Welsh side for Cork.

Cork has often had to play second fiddle to £12m man Victor Wanyama this season but has reestablished himself in the team of late.

Mauricio Pochettino was asked if Saints had received a bid for Cork and said: "Yes but Jack Cork is a very important player for us and there is no possibility he is going to leave this club."

£3million? Do they really think that is a realistic offer. Jack is a super player. Anybody watching the Ars game would know that £10 million wouldn't buy him. Why would we let a very important player go for a pittance.

Jack was my man of the match against Arsenal. . . We absolutely have to keep him. His current form will make it tough for VW to get back in the side. . When we have that quality in every position we will be genuine contenders. Hands of everyone. . Jack is going no where!! Coyrs

Me too. Morgan started life as a more attacking midfielder so I reckon he could play further forward of the three.

Cork has had a bit of a tough time since the olympics, his injuries and VW coming, but he has been the consummate professional. The game time he has had recently has allowed him to show what he can do for us on the pitch. JC, MS and VW is a midfield with bite that not many teams will fancy playing against. We can rotate JW-P and SD in there too. Anyone I've missed out?

I've got to say, as much as I loved Nigel Adkins whilst he was our manager, the one thing I did not care about his interviews was that he would always dodge the answers with vague remarks and diplomacy. This would often leave the viewers with more questions than before his interviews. In contrast, MP seems to always address the questions thrown at him head on and answers them with confidence. LOVE YOU MP!!!

Agree with other posts I think all 3 can play together would be A very strong midfield. My only thought would be that would would miss lallanas creativity if he is out on the wing, but I think it is worth a shout against the big teams who have destructive middfields ( chelsea, city).

Corky is quality and only getting better, I still remember his awesome performance vs Man City in December. I'd love to see him get a couple of Prem goals as he often has a go from distance but hasn't had much luck yet. i I wonder if he scores many in training? VW will have to compete hard to get his spot back. A useful player to have in the squad to help out at RB too. £3 million is an absolute joke!! We'll keep him thanks!!

That sounds a wee bit naughty :) but I get your drift and, like others have said, I think it could be worth trying. Imagine those three with Adam and Jay carving down the flanks and a fully fit Rickie in the centre.

Some would say we wouldn't get enough goals out of that combination but I do think that if he had a more forward role, Morgan could bag a lot more goals. You'd have to feel for Davis and JWP, though.

Agree, but Adam can float anywhere in an attacking role and help out pressing high up wherever he is. I still think we need a bit of additional attacking creativity. Adam has carried a lot of weight on his shoulders since our injury problems and could do with some help.

THIS IS ONE POSITION WE HAVE STRENGTH IN DEPTH.

WE ARE THE MIGHTY SOUTHAMPTON - We do not have to keep working to the bare bones and when a Player gets injured we lose games.

JACK IS QUALITY and is often up for Man of the Match. VICTOR Is ALSO GOOD.

WE NEED THOSE TYPES OF PLAYERS IN OUR SQUAD.

Changing to the Osvaldo Saga - We don't have to palm him off cheaply. We need Options Quality and Depth to our Squad.

WE GO TO FULHAM TO WIN.

RED ARMY 2014. UP THE SAINTS !!

Yes, I agree. I would love to see that line up in midfield. VW mopping up in front of the defence, with JC and MS turning defence into attack in the blink of an eye. You'd have to feel a bit for Steven Davis though as he too has been a very good, consistant performer. We need that steel back on the park in VW though IMO.

Swansea are used to buying players on the cheap.MICHU,BONNEY, AND NATHAN DYER all cost next to nothing.Jack Cork is international quality in my book.Even if the swans offered 10 million it would be below what he is worth.
I think Palace are getting Puncheon on the cheap.3million would have been a better price.
With Punch definitely going it opens up a place for a new wideman in the summer. If Lloyd Isgrove or Omar Rowe aren't to be given a chance how about getting old academy boy DYER back from Swansea.I think he has an injury at the moment but when he played against us last season he troubled our defence as he did at ST MARYS earlier in the season.Dave Merrington always rated Dyer as being a good a player as Theo Walcott so i think that he would be a useful addition to the squad in the summer.

A number of sensible, knowledgeable comments unlike other team's websites. Swansea are trying it on (again) and unlike with Nathan Dyer SFC can treat the offer with the contempt it deserves. Jack is a £5M+ player now who has the potential to be an England midfielder by Euro 2016. Agree a midfield of JC and VW in front of the back four with MS pushed forward, JR & AL wide with RL up front will take the team further up the ladder. Great options with JWP, SD, SG with others coming through from the academy. Another option perhaps is for Jack in central defence (note his deep positioning against Arsenal) as a ball-playing defender a la David Luiz with Lov/Jose marking. Essentially Jack Cork is far too vlauable to let go.
