Poch: Anything possible with Osvaldo's future

Daily Echo: Dani Osvaldo Dani Osvaldo

Mauricio Pochettino says “anything is possible” in terms of whether Dani Osvaldo leaves Saints before the transfer window shuts.

The Italian international is currently the subject of a two-week suspension, imposed on him by the club after he allegedly headbutted teammate Jose Fonte in training.

There is a strong chance that record-signing Osvaldo, who Juventus are interested in, could depart St Mary’s before tomorrow’s 11pm deadline, although Pochettino refused to give much away when quizzed about the subject this afternoon.

He said: “At the moment there is no news regarding Dani Osvaldo.

“There is still a day and half left to finish the transfer window activity so there’s many things that can happen in that time.

“Anything is possible.”

Pochettino had revealed on Monday that Saints are looking at possibly signing one player before the window shuts.

However, he says it is not simple to find the right player at this time of year.

“Signing right now someone who fits the profile we are looking for is not easy,” he said.

“It’s very complicated to find that player.”

What has Osvaldo done since he came to Saints. Yes it does take time to bed in but not six months as our younger players have proved by fitting straight in.
A player of Osvaldo's standard should be able to do better than he has, I think we could get a better player like Danny Ings who is still young and would blend in with the added bonus of being a Saints Supporter. Also when players start attacking fellow players that's when a line should be drawn as this is not acceptable.

our younger players have had the benefit of being with the club for up to 10 years, so its very easy for them to `fit in. it doesn't mater how good some players are, if they`re not happy or are finding it difficult to settle in a new country they might struggle to fit in.
as for ings, the fact that he`s a fan shouldn't be a factor in the club signing him. we have an extensive backroom staff dedicated to finding and assessing players from all over Europe, so I`m sure they would have had a look at him. they might have decided that he isn't good enough or doesn't fit the system or too expensive or any number of reasons why they don't want him.

Agreed and I appreciate that you don't sign a player just because they are a fan but the fact that he is young scores goals regularly all be it in the Championship and is English which is something that Saints promote should go a long way also I know we have the scouts and backroom staff this is just from a fans perspective. Osvaldo has a dodgy record for his temper and MP took a risk bringing him in which has not really paid off unfortunately although we cant let him go too cheaply

When any club looks to bring in players they have to look at what they have and the style they are trying to attain.
BigSam needs Andy Carroll.
Rodgers needed Coutinho.
We need to look at players who are going to fit in with a high pressing style.
Saints have been lucky that most of the players who were already here took the plan onboard and have given it a good go.
The next purchase has to be ready to fit into that team method.
This rules out a whole lot of players that have been linked, simply because they wouldn't want to put that much effort in.
With a World Cup coming up any player who is on the verge of his country's squad is going to want to be able to say he had a good 2nd half of the season and want to join a club that will show him in a good light. Hence Mata.
Saints need to be looking at players who are desparate to impress.
That rules rules out a whole lot more.
Finally any new player needs to be better than what we already have.
Two recent England debutants in our strike force make all these requirements extremely difficult.
If we could ask the rest of the team what sort of player they would like to see and what characteristics they would want to see might well throw up even more complications.
Finally there is the opinion of MP and Les Reed.
Gallagher looks to be the man in place at the moment with confidence from the rest of the squad in his ability and an eagerness to suceed.
I won't be surprised if we don't sign a striker and Osvaldo is still with us and available for selection in February with Jose told to bite the bullet and the rest of the team told to buckle down and play football.
After all Dani is the closest fit to all the things I have said we need and he may well be sorry for his outburst enough to actually put in some performances.
As for the need for a CB, I think that is a more pressing matter and probably requires a signing. Whoever it might be, we don't want ot be signing any player who doesn't fit with all the above criteria again.
A brilliant time to be supporting the Saints.
9th.
13 points clear of relegation place.
8 points short of the majic 40 with 15 games to secure those points
only four teams with a better defensive record.
we have never had it so good.(well not recently)

Cpt. Kirk's illegitimate love child says...

From Football Italia in last 10 mins:

"Sky Sport Italia claim Dani Osvaldo “is virtually a Juventus player,” as Southampton will accept a loan move.

According to the Italian channel, Southampton have agreed to send Osvaldo to Turin on loan for €400,000 (£330,000) with an option to buy for €20m (£16.4m) at the end of the season.

There would also be several performance-related bonuses tied in, so the Premier League club would receive potentially a large cash sum even if he returns after six months."

So given that we messed up taking Osvaldo, how complicated is it really to find someone to fit in? Our "system" might need an overhaul.

Yeah he can certainly change a game alright, be it off or on field or in training. He can also change the attitude of his fellow team mates in a flash as well as those in other teams. He can also change the way the management look at him. Osvaldo the game changer, a bargain at 15million quid.

Think there is a possibility of a bit of dilemma if Osvaldo stays. We may need to call on him in later games also he has to really do some convincing to get into the Italy world cup squad and that is only going to happen by scoring goals. So he needs to be playing.

Understandably Saints want their money back on the player and should not have to sell on the cheap.

I am hoping Yoshida will step up to the mark, he was a regular in a pretty tight defence once he setlled last season. He has only played the odd game here and there this season. I would of liked to have seen Astori come but it looks like any interest there by both parties is long gone. In fact he was impressive in many games last season just needs time to settle back in, hope fans give him a chance.

In fairness our terrible form that everyone talks of is 4W 4D 3L from the last eleven games. We deserved a point at Everton and the fact we only had Lorven as a first team defender against Spurs cost us dearly, though Chambers seems to be holding his place in the first team on merit now.
Yes we could argue we deserved better from all our draws and the fact we are disappointed with those results shows how far we have come.
(games league and cup). Considering the huge injury problems this club has been and is up against we have done fairly well.

Reading reports on Sky it is looking more likely Dani is on his way to Juve until the end of the season with the option to buy. Even with Sam Gallagher coming through I still think we need someone in to replace Dani. With Billy Sharp, Lee Barnard and Tadanari Lee all gone it's going to leave us short of options especially if we get any injuries to Rickie or Jay.
The worrying thing for me is who is available. Maybe get Mayuka back.

Maybe get Mayuka back.[/p]
Mayuka came back some time ago, I believe injured, came home for treatment on an ankle? May be out for the rest of the season[/p]
Did a bit of digging and found that Mayuka had a scan and some treatment and is back with Sochaux who have on contract on him until 2017! OSPREYSAINT

according to the Sky the deal is virtually done and if they sign him in summer it will cost 20 million euros. Seems more and more unlikely we will find anyone in this window. Never know though, leaves us thin up front but Gallagher impressed the other night and we looked fast up front.
I know the Echo says Jay doesn't play middle but when you look at a lot of his goals this season that is where they come from. For example Sunderland, Newcastle, Cardiff, Chelsea. Villa.
I think it is more that we inter change RL, Adam and Jay and I am sure an eager willing striker like Gallagher will fall in with that system and at a push there is Guly who can fill in and Poch I think has that in mind he is getting game time.

Billy Sharp scored a lot of goals in the Championship but he wasn't good enough for us!
Ricky Lambert did too. And Adam Lallana. And Guly!
