Lovren and Ramirez could return

Daily Echo: Gaston Ramirez and Dejan Lovren Gaston Ramirez and Dejan Lovren

Saints could welcome back injured duo Dejan Lovren and Gaston Ramirez for the trip to West Ham on Saturday.

The pair have been sidelined ever since suffering ankle ligament damage in the 2-2 Premier League draw at Sunderland a month ago.

They were initially expected to be out for six-to-eight weeks, but have recovered quicker than anticipated, and could be included in the squad for the match at Upton Park.

Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino revealed that the only definite absentee will be centre back Jos Hooiveld.

"Hooiveld is definitely out of the game," he said. "He had a problem in his eye, and he's definitely not available for that game.

"There's other players with some niggling injuries that need to be assessed and we're also looking at the possibility of putting into the list Lovren and Gaston Ramirez, and taking them to the game."

Awesome!

Dejan's importance to the team goes without saying but I'm really excited about seeing Gaston return. I think it was just starting to 'click' for him when he got his injury so fingers crossed he'll pick up where he left off.

Hooiveld has a problem with his eye, I reckon he's had one all season, every time he's played he's not seen anything coming.

if he had an extra week or two I think gaston could have been the player, with that little bit extra, to unlock hoofs wall of defenders.
the speed of recovery for both players yet again shows the quality of our training and recovery facilities and the outstanding work put in by the backroom staff.

Great news, on all accounts! Would be great to have Lovren come back. Maya has done a wonderful job filling in, but Lovren does make a huge difference. Would be nice to see Gaston come back and get some playing time. And, while I'm sure this will not be a popular comment, Hooiveld being out doesn't hurt us at all. It means he won't be able to score on us!

The backroom staff should be commended as well.

Btw lots of United fans (proper ones that go to the games and stuff) are asking me if we'll sell them Dejan as a replacement for Vidic. I sort of admire them for actually realising how good he is, but yet the words that actually come out of my mouth are always a variation on "You can fcuk off, mate".

He's a diamond, that one. And anyone that follows his twitter will know his attitude is perfect. He loves this club.

Rocket, Beer Monster is more than a fan than I will ever be. Living in Scotland, regularly travelling a hell of a long way to see Saints play and, I gather, always trapsing through Glasgow in a red Saints' shirt risking being mistaken for an Aberdeen fan wins my respect.

I thought he had his tongue firmly placed in his cheek, but I could be wrong. Anyway, whether or not you liked what he said, shouting abuse doesn't make you a better man.

I don't think we should rush Lovren back against a team that doesn't score too many. Maybe give him half a game. Yoshida has been a reasonable deputy.

Our passing football is at times sublime perhaps as good as any in the top four, our pressing is definately top four however our finishing is woeful…

…indeed most teams in the league do not create our ratio of chances not by a long chalk…..

..virtually everyone though converts a higher percentage than us and by quite a margin, were we to be average on conversion ratio then combined with our pressing and passing and chances created right now, today, this minute we would be third.
