Poch: commercial decisions shouldn't affect team

Daily Echo: Ralph Krueger Ralph Krueger

MAURICIO Pochettino says that Saints’ drive to improve commercially must not come at the expense of the team.

New chairman Ralph Krueger spoke this week of the “huge gap” that existed in the club’s commercial standing, which is one area he is keen to quickly address.

Saints manager Pochettino welcomes plans to grow, but he said that decisions which could potentially have an impact on the team must be made carefully.

Pochettino was speaking in response to a hypothetical question about whether he would be happy at the prospect of going further afield than normal in pre-season, for example to China or the United States.

“First of all, I don’t know exactly what words he said, what exactly he said,” explained Pochettino, referring to Krueger’s statements.

“Second of all, in my personal opinion, I think there always needs to be agreement between the commercial side of the club and the sporting side of the club, because that will lead to the best outcome for the football club.

“There has to be an agreement between both sides, between what’s best for the football club in a commercial way and also in a sporting way and, once we come to that agreement, then we will be able to make the best decisions for this football club.”

WE MUST DEVELOP OUR COMMERCIAL INTERESTS TO CONTINUE TO GROW.

PRE-SEASON SHOULD BE MORE IMAGINATIVE TO DEVELOP THE FAN BASE.

SOUTHAMPTON FC IS A GLOBAL PRODUCT - AND WE ALWAYS WELCOME OUR OVERSEAS POSTERS ON THIS SITE.

NORWEGIAN SAINT - SWESAINT - FLORIDA SAINT - TIRAU DAN ETC.

TOGETHER AS ONE.

You can see why he doesn't speak to the press in English - this is a prime example of the press trying to trip him up and stir up a rift between him and Kreuger.

Good comment Epsom Saint, another example was when Jesus the Assistant Manager said after the defeat in the FA Cup at Sunderland the Management are sad, I never took that comment as meaningful, I gave him the benefit of the doubt as I think he meant to say disappointed,Jesus speaks English but not fluent, someone who does speak fluent is David the Interpretor and when he talks it back in English it's not exactly as Mauricio says it because if anyone has a Spanish Document go to Google Translate and it amazing how different it is in English.

As regards to the Commercial side of Saints, to reap more revenue is being successful, success breeds success and Southampton FC are an old established Team probably older than Man U, Chelsea etc, I've often noticed when in different Countries on a holiday that I see I quote: Top Clubs Shirts worn but rarely a Southampton Shirt and often in the many Clothes shops a Southampton Shirt may not be possible to buy.

I've often thought it must be that Saints are not successful enough but after this season many people will of taken notice of the progress, the wonderful style of Football being played by Southampton since Mauricio became the Manager must of caught the eye of thousands of Football Fans all over the world regardless of who they support, this must surely help the franchise hence the Commercial importance of the Club.

Lets hope very soon that Southampton Shirts will outnumber all the other Clubs in the Premiership, I do not believe that Southampton's best Players will ever be sacrificed because that won't move the Club forward or keep the Manager, I understand the new Chairman's vision as do thousands of others and any interference into Team selection or Players bought will never happen and the best Players in the world will want to Play for Southampton because Mauricio Potchettino has the last word and so he should COYR

We will not compete for a full season effectively against the big four UNLESS we have a succesful commercial department…it has been our weak spot for 3 decades…
There is no fair play in football the big buy everything including the trophies ..so if you want to pull the bird you first have to join the party…lets go for it.
