Southampton goalkeeper Artur Boruc is confident that manager Mauricio Pochettino will sign a new contract with the club

Daily Echo: Artur Boruc Artur Boruc

SAINTS keeper Artur Boruc is confident that manager Mauricio Pochettino will soon sign a new contract with the club.

Pochettino’s current deal expires at the end of next season, and the absence of a fresh one is beginning to cause some uncertainty.

Rickie Lambert this week encouraged the new Saints board to tie the 42-year-old down to an extended stay, and Boruc said that is a feeling shared among the squad.

“I think so. You can see that we’ve improved,” he said. “We’re playing very good football, you can enjoy seeing us playing.

“I can’t really say anything more. That should easily be in the minds of the board, and I think sooner or later it’s going to happen.”

Boruc added: “We don’t really talk too much about it. We’ll see what’s going to happen in the next weeks. I think it’s going to happen sooner or later.”

Why the rush anyway? A lot of things can happen before the end of next Season, what do we want a binding 8 year contract AP style?

I'm not concerned. If MP is the intelligent man we all believe him to be, then we must expect him to do what he believes is best for him and his career. Right now, I would think that the best thing for him is to consider all available options before signing anything. So, even if he has already been offered a new contract that we don't know about, I wouldn't expect him to sign it any time soon.

What's more, it's something none of us on here has any say in. So, to paraphrase the well-known prayer, let's have the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can and wisdom to know the difference.

Err because we might lose the best young manager in the Prem otherwise. Why did we sign Shaw, JWP, Adam etc to long term contracts? To keep them or make them very expensive if someone comes a calling that's why. Same applies to the manager. If there isn't a need why do you think the players are now coming out and saying do it?

I doubt very much Rickie, Boruc etc are speaking out publicly without the blessing of MoPo - otherwise he'd tell them to shut the fack up!

That's not how journalism works, though. Do you think Artur and Rickie called a press conference or something? The media need a story and ask the necessary questions to create it.

All the players have done here is to respond to the questions that they were asked ....... and bingo!

Can't blame the media guys for doing their jobs, can't blame the players for responding and can't blame us for holding a range of different opinions. Personally, I take the view that MP will do what's right for him and, alas, that might mean he'll get (or already has got) a better offer than he will get (or has been given) by Katharina. If and when MP leaves, just as has been the case with NC, the club will move on. Meanwhile, I'm glad he's the manager and I hope he remains so for a long. long time. Nothing more, nothing less.

More importantly, at what time and where will be beering and currying in Manchester?

I also want York City to win today and Saints to win tomorrow.
3 things that would make my weekend if they all happened by Monday.

If I'd have to settle for 2 out of 3, I'd take Poch signing a new deal and York City winning 4-0.
The 2-2 draw with the Spuds would be a tad disappointing but not the end of the world and the other 2 plus's would make up for it.

I take your point. But remember these players have been well versed in not speaking out of turn over the last few years so I still say they wouldn't comment if MoPo was unhappy for them to do so.

He will do what is right for him but I expect that his decision will not only take into account his personal terms but the aims and aspirations of the club. He is young and ambitious and if they cut the transfer budget that may affect his decision. He and the players were sold a vision, we all lauded NC for his ability to do that, we all need to know that remains the case despite the change of personnel at the top and so far they haven't said either way.

We're staying over in Bolton and my mate will be driving me, Small and Bill so we can get lagered. You've got to get away so up to you where and when. Facebook me your number and we can touch base.

Make no mistake there is an element of catch 22 in this, I would not mind betting that MoPo shrewd as he is is privately looking for some commitment from our younger players too.

The discussion is happening at board level make no mistake, equally neither can they (the board) or MoPo…

I absolutely and totally believe that MoPo bought into NC's vision and will be seeing if there is any backtracking on the new boards part.

If I'd have to settle for 2 out of 3, I'd take Poch signing a new deal and York City winning 4-0.
The 2-2 draw with the Spuds would be a tad disappointing but not the end of the world and the other 2 plus's would make up for it.

York go to Fratton on the back of 4 straight wins. Mansfield are currently drawing with Rochdale. Northampton, Torquay and Exeter need to show their mettle. If the skunks lose today I really think there's a good chance of them exiting the football league trap door. Slurrrrrrrrp!!!
Fingers crossed.
Good work again by the way on the few's site.

All the players have done here is to respond to the questions that they were asked ....... and bingo!

Northampton squandering a lead took the gloss off it all. The skates may keep losing but either Northampton or Torquay or preferably both need to catch them.

Yes, skunt are timing their relegation run to perfection. An own goal in the 95th minute of their last game would be brilliant, but hopefully they will have secured their Conference spot well before then. Absolutely classic that they loaned out DC, their only decent goalscorer. Mind you they probably had to let him go as it's difficult putting up with the stench for more than a month or two. Especially when he has played his most recent football at a quality club like the Mighty Saints.

2 0 ft A second from Rooney which was a gift, that means we need to win tomorrow to get back into striking distance.

Well the filthy thieving skunts must be full of optimism for their next game - away at top of the table Rochdale! :-D

Northampton are home to Wimbledon next week so fingers crossed things will be levelled up on points...
Next season's Eaglesh!t v Skunt derby is definitely on - and will be as funny as f*ck!

Newcastle win in 93rd minute. It's all going tits up.
Yeah, but - unlike the skates - the Wombles nicked a late one as well. It's not all bad.
Northampton squandering a lead took the gloss off it all. The skates may keep losing but either Northampton or Torquay or preferably both need to catch them.
Nice to see how those five trophies are helping them now.

For what it's worth, Poopey only have 3 more home games and 5 away. As they collect most of their points (26) at the dump, this will make their survival chances bleaker - for them, that is, not for us.

On the other hand Northampton have 5 home games, including one against the Skates, although their home points to away points ratio (21/18) isn't as pronounced as the Skates.

A good drubbing at Rochdale, plus a home win for Northampton, could make this Tuesday one of those special days, when the two teams swap places on goal difference.
