Mason: Sholing are a band of brothers
They are the band of brothers that are marching on Wembley.
Sholing attacker Barry Mason gave a nod to his teammates that reached the final of the FA Vase following a 6-4 aggregate win over Eastbourne United by labelling them brothers.
“I couldn’t do it with a better bunch of boys, we are an amazing band of brothers, we talk every day, we couldn’t be closer,” said Mason, whose actual brother Byron Mason captains the Boatmen.
“We showed desire and guts to carry on after they cut us back to 3-2.
“I’m over the moon and now I’m going to celebrate hard.”
Mason, who started on the right wing against the East Sussex side, hailed manager Dave Diaper’s tactics, which saw him start the unfamiliar duo of Alex Sawyer and Mike Carter in centre midfield and Byron Mason upfront with Lee Wort.
“He (Diaper) nailed it, spot on, Carter and Sawyer in the middle had so much energy in there with me and Marv (Marvin McLean) on the wings and Byron (Byron Mason) as the spearhead and Worty (Lee Wort) running off him.
“Everyone was fantastic today, we left nothing out there and Wembley here we come.
“It’s a dream come true to be playing at the home of football.”
