Liverpool want to sign Southampton's Adam Lallana 'before the World Cup'
Updated 12:00pm Friday 9th May 2014 in Sport
LIVERPOOL will reportedly test the Saints board’s resolve to keep hold of their best players by tabling a bid for Adam Lallana.
There is fresh speculation this morning that Reds boss Brendan Rodgers will table a bid for the St Mary’s skipper as soon as the curtain is brought down on the 2013/14 Premier League season this Sunday.
And it is reported that Liverpool want a deal for Lallana, who celebrates his 26th birthday tomorrow, wrapped up before England’s opening World Cup game on June 8.
Speaking at his pre-match conference this morning Mauricio Pochettino had no further information to report.
He admitted: "I pretty much have the same information as you have, the same as you received through the media.
"The club has not spoken to me officially about anything so I have the same information as you have."
Saints director Les Reed recently admitted that the club had received no bids for any of their prize assets.
Lallana, under contract at Saints until the summer of 2018, this week said that the club’s board, headed by chairman Ralph Krueger, face a massive summer.
“There will be decisions made in the summer on what kind of route the club will take in terms of whether we really do push on and go again and look to really improve.
“If that’s the case, we want to keep our best players and manager.”
Lallana, who scooped four awards at Saints’ presentation evening earlier this week, has scored nine goals in 37 Premier League games this season.
He has started all but one of the club’s league games, and come on as a sub in the other.
Manchester City’s Yaya Toure, Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard are the only other midfielders to have scored more league goals than Lallana this term, while Aaron Ramsey and Raheem Sterling have also scored nine.
