New Liverpool signing Adam Lallana believes England's World Cup failure will make him mentally tougher.

The 26-year-old's £25million move to Anfield from Saints was completed quickly following the national team's early exit from the tournament in Brazil, where they were eliminated after just two matches.

Lallana, who made one start and two substitute appearances in his first World Cup, expects the chastening experience to benefit him and other members of that squad in the future.

"I just have to keep working harder," he said.

"We did suffer disappointments at the World Cup but we need to rest for a couple of weeks, recharge the batteries and then get back to doing what we love which is playing football.

"Hopefully we can learn something from the experience and take it into the European Championship (qualifying) campaign.

"I think you can only become stronger mentally. It is a long way from home in different conditions, a lot of people's first major tournament, and we just have to learn quickly and improve and get better results next time."

Lallana played alongside Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard in Brazil and will now be doing so on a regular basis for his new team.

"There is no limit to what I can learn playing with him. For me to be playing alongside him is quite surreal," added the midfielder.

"He has that aura around him but I need to get used to it because I will be playing with him week in, week out.

"He is still such a good player and can go on to play for a numerous amount of years with the quality he possesses.

"Hopefully I can settle in quickly and I'll give it my best and hope I can add something to the team.

"Hopefully we can win trophies because that is why I am here - for success."

YOU were crap - the first season of the Prem and could and would not show your face for fans at the end of Season signings ...

There is every likelihood - that you have another couple of duff Seasons - be BENCHED and dropped for ENGLAND.

To improve our FIFA Ratings we really do need more talent and ability than is currently being offered.

No Adam it won't make you stronger. It will make you realise that in world terms England players are sh1te. With your move to Skiverpool you will remember this year as the one when your career went into decline.

There's a lot of hope in his last few words and he seems to think he'll be the first name on the team sheet.

Footballing wise, I think this move is a mistake, he'll end up a bit part player.
Financially, he'll get paid loads for sitting on the bench.

Time to move on and forget about past players, managers and chairmen.

Look to the future and support the club.

Liverpool will be out in the group stages of the Champions League, so he's basically signed up for six games. Then they'll miss out on qualifying nest season, as they did the previous season. Speaking of which, I wonder if Lallana would have considered a move to Anfield 12 months ago when it didn't look like Liverpool would get anywhere near Europe? (They finished 7th, right?) I doubt it. I argue that squads for European competitions ought to only be comprised of players who were a member of the squad the previous season, when the team qualified. This might prevent a few players jumping ship for instant European football. They'd have to think more carefully about which clubs had the potential to make it a year later.

The problem with all these new departures, is that the Daily Echo has suddenly stopped talking about every little thing that Nigel Adkins says and does.

Come on DE! Give us some more of that "Former Saints legend™ Nigel Adkins is looking forward to taking his side to Wigan for the first day of the new season. Adkins who was sacked after... blah... blah... blah... blah... blah."

I'm sure the same might be said of Jones, Henderson and Smalling who don't play for us either.

The point of this story is what?
