Koeman the centre of attention as he returns to his native Netherlands

Daily Echo: Ronald Koeman with new signing Graziano Pelle Ronald Koeman with new signing Graziano Pelle

Ronald Koeman was the centre of attention last night as he returned to his native Holland to take charge of a Saints game for the first time.

The Dutch legend - who helped his country win the European Championships 26 years ago - was an obvious target for photographers and young fans as Saints kicked off their pre-season schedule with a comfortable 4-0 win against Dutch amateurs EHC Hoensbroek.

Koeman is pictured here alongside new signing Graziano Pelle, and sitting on the bench with members of his coaching staff including brother Erwin Koeman, Sammy Lee and goalkeeping coach Dave Watson.

Sounds like a good first run out and a good few days away for team building.

However we are still a good LB away from last seasons standard.
Then the requirements before the departures remain the same as we were all saying before Easter, that is new FIRST choice players in these positions GK, CB, WINGER and STRIKER as well as a replacement LB.

With J-Rod injured until at least next January, we only have Pelle as a striker as I don't believe Gallagher is ready and that Mayuka or Sharp are good enough.

We MUST score 20+ more goals next season so a Striker who is BETTER than Pelle is a priority. We need options and competition up front urgently, so even a season long loanee like Lukaku would be good.

We also need to strengthen the defense, hence a GK, LB, & CB that are better than we have are equally important.

With FIVE FIRST CHOICE players still required to bring in before the window closes (that's at least one per week) means there is a lot of work for Les Reed to do !

Please Les do not waste money buying players just for cover, we need to improve the 11 on the pitch if we are to show any ambition.

Getting them in asap

Not surprising that RK attracted interest as he is treated like a god in Holland. By the end of the next season Poch, Lallana, and the other wantaways will be a long and distant memory.
I think we still have some great news to come from new players coming in but we could do with a marque signing that will continue to state our intent to remain in the top half of the PL. However we need to be honest with ourselves we will not be abla to compete with the top four as they have so much more money than us, however we can still aim to improve on last year and to win a cup competition that will get us into Europe.

I'm not sure if you have this problem on these pages (at first glance there don't seem to be too many posts that fall into the really annoying category).

Anyway I developed Troll Blocker, a free extension for Google Chrome that hides the comments of selected users. I developed it for myself but have made it available to anybody else who wants to use it. You can get it from the Google Web Store (just type "Google Web Store Troll Blocker" into any search engine and it should be the first hit).

I hope you like it!
We do get plagued from time to time by idiot Portsmouth fans (skates) who had a short period, the first in living memory, above us. Fortunately they are now back where they belong with what's left of their club in League Two. Which is nice.
