Saints have an interest in Brazilian striker Paulinho, according to his club’s president.

The 28-year-old scored 15 times in Serie A last season for Livorno, but is set to be sold this summer after they were relegated.

Top-flight Italian side Verona are keen on him, with Saints, West Ham and Stoke also said to have registered an interest.

Livorno president Aldo Spinelli is quoted in Italy as saying: “Not only Verona are looking at the player. West Ham, Stoke City and Southampton are tracking him in the Premier League, while in Dubai two clubs are interested.

"As far as we are concerned, one club is as good as another. It’s up to him now, so he will decide the destination then we will reach an agreement on the economic aspects.

"Paulinho will return to Italy tomorrow, then he’ll decide on his future. In January, our assessment was €10m, now the fee has decreased.”

Saints have recently completed the signing of Feyenoord striker Graziano Pelle, 29.

A top Striker BETTER than Pelle and J-Rod is what we need.
Question - is Paulinho better ? He is 28 and not proven in the Premiership, but if RonKo thinks he is OK then fine.

I would sooner see a Striker who is younger and can score in this league even if it is on a year long loan like Lukaku !

With J-Rod out until January at best, Gallagher not ready yet, Mayuka & Sharp not good enough and Osvaldo - well who knows ? We only have Pelle and he has yet to prove he can do well in this league.

We must score 20+ more goals this season so at Least one TOP STRIKER is needed urgently so pleased to hear we are at least looking !

Come on Les keep working at it !!

I think 15 is a good average, no more than Lambert did for us. I think it's more productive to have 3 or 4 players pulling in these scoring numbers rather than relying on one 25 goal man. And we could have the boys to do it, JRod, Pelle, Tadic, (new man), plus high single figures from your Gallaghers, Davis' and Schneid

Is 15 goals good? Is it bad? Time & again we see 'X goals a season' trotted out without any context. 15 goals from 30 chances suggests a striker who is far more clinical than 15 goals for 150 chances. Not to mention at what point they were scored (where they 15 winning goals in a tight game, or did they all come as part of a rout?).
However, remembering the dark old days where we would have dreamt to have been linked with the players & manager that we have, things are certainly on the up! Here's to a great season - COYR!!

A younger striker may have more years left in him, but it takes a few years for them to really hit the top of their game. Robben is only hitting his finest form as he enters the twilight of his top level career. The same could be said of SRL. On the other side, Lukaku didn't exactly set the World Cup alight. Danny Ings ( another one touted as our saviour on here ... much the same as one B Sharp was a few seasons back) may have done well as part of the blunt instrument that was Burnley's promotion side, but Saints play a very different game.

Saint's do need another striker to help with the burden of scoring goals, regardless of weather he is 28 years old or unproven in the premier league doesn't come into to question! if Saints and Ronald Koeman think hes good enough then we have to take there word for it, and judge players when they play for Saints and give them time to settle before making a judgement! I think Saint's have like always a wealth of young talent at there disposal Sam Gallacher, Harrison Reed, Jordan Turnball, James McCarthy, Sam Mcqueen Jack Stephens and Callum Chambers, to name a few as well as regulars like Cork, Clyne, Schnerderlin (who should be our new captain in my opinion) but I do feel some experience is needed and this Paulinho striker will help as well as new signings Pelle and Tadic. I would like Saint's to sign Danny Ings 21 year old english forward from Burnley. I am still concerned at our goalkeeping and central defence areas as we are very light, we do need another top quality keeper, Ruddy or Forster would do, and we need at least 2 top quality centre halfs and I think Saint's should be fine this coming season. Saint's still have players who they can let go who are surplus to requirements like Billy Sharp, Maya Yoshida, Gaston Ramirez, Danny Osvaldo, and there is the future of Dejan Lovren who I would sell for 25 million and no less.

They don't want to sell him; they want to build their squad for a chance of staying in the Prem, and if you read their site their fans are as **** off with vultures as we are - the only difference is the vultures involved.

We can't slag off Liverpool etc. for going after our players against our will, or slag off our ex players who left because they could make more money and (in their opinion) win more trophies, and then take players from other clubs by promising them a better future and more money, without being a tad hypocritical.

Well if we do not buy anyone else I think there will be some extremely upset fans and a very difficult Season.

We are wasting so much time and money:-

MONEY being :- on wages of players we cringe when they are in the first team , the best of those being Fonte.

TIME being :- hurry up and get rid of old wood and sign some more better players not just get rid of our better players and keep the old wood.

Come on you Saints

Saints need to be looking at what our competitors are doing so we don't start the season weaker than these teams. We shouldn't let Caulker go to QPR when we need a new centre back. Surely he'd want to work with Koeman!

Danny Ings - absolutely spot on and ticks all the boxes.

Local lad, supports the Saints, ONLY 21, scores goals etc.

SO, why would Burnley want to sell him having just got into the Premier League? Puzzles me, for sure.
££££££££££

, and they've just the lad from Middlesbrough
Another southampton man.
Went to Youngstown school in Romsey.
