Saints are set to launch a second bid for Celtic keeper Fraser Forster, after having an initial offer turned down.

As revealed by the Daily Echo last month, the club are in the market for a new stopper this summer and they have now identified the 6ft 7in England international as their prime target.

Forster, who has previously worked with recently-appointed Saints goalkeeping coach Dave Watson, would likely command a fee approaching the £10m mark.

Saints’ initial bid was well below what Celtic deemed acceptable, but it is understood the board intend to go back with an improved offer.

The club are also expected to take a second run at Norwich winger Nathan Redmond, after having an opening approach knocked back last week.

The Canaries, relegated from the Premier League last season, have said they would expect a fee upwards of £6m for the England Under-21 international.

Redmond is currently away with Norwich on their pre-season tour to Italy.

I read some impressive stats that Fraser holds the Scottish Premiership record of 1,256 minutes without conceding a goal, and had 188 league appearances with 102 clean sheets in his career. He sounds like a great candidate. I think we should pay what he's worth and get him in here.

That was in the days when we actually had a bus service that served the public and took them to where they wanted to go. The Number 5 from Bassett to Sholing has been reduced to one an hour, useless for getting to St Marys, I prefer to walk, while I still can.

Yes, I know I saw it earlier on the web site, I was just teasing you, but I was thinking it's not a great way to conduct business, but then that is the way it is these days, what should be negotiations conducted privately between two Clubs is now used as a yard stick to beat the opposition into paying over the odds. The only people kept in the dark are the fans, although even the BBC get it wrong a lot these days. Chin up mate, it can get better, keep the faith.

There was one Guy there sporting the 11 route which also passed near the Dell in the good old days, (Stag Gates stop).
The "Red Indian" above the rads always used to fascinate me.
That was in the days when we actually had a bus service that served the public and took them to where they wanted to go. The Number 5 from Bassett to Sholing has been reduced to one an hour, useless for getting to St Marys, I prefer to walk, while I still can.
The first time I went to the "Dell", Julius Ceasur was only a Lance/Corprol.

No it's on the bbc.
If they land Forster, rojo,Redmond and a centre half I think we will be ok

I don't think any significant transfer activity will take place until the futures of Fonte, Cork, Spider and Lovren are sorted.

From then, Big Ron will have a clear indication of exactly what will be required and who to build a team around.

I'd imagine he's got a date (say 31st July) for the above to be sorted to give him time to add to the squad. He has been quoted as saying we have a good team that requires strengthening but the extent of that is determined by the futures of these 4 players.

Lovren has not featured in any action as Saints are waiting for Liverhampton to up their bid, but they are leaving it late knowing we have to sell and will get him for a lower price closer to the end August, so the game goes on.

Morgan is due back this weekend, he will look at the squad and realize that with no big signings to take us forward, he will want to leave for champions league. Arsenal & Spuds know he is on holiday so are probably speaking to his agent and will make their offers at the weekend.

Cork & Fonte don't have any reason to leave other than to a club where they will be first choice, which they may not be here next season, so may stay if Saints offer them a better deal. There is a report offering to make Jose captain to try to get him to stay,

Sadly I do not expect to see Morgan, Lovren & Osvaldo wearing to new stripped shirt and J-Rod will only do so to prove his fitness before he goes probably in January now. Just hope we can keep Chambers & Cline.

Les Reed is busy with these sales and trying to keep as many players as possible, but he really MUST spend more time on bringing the new players in.

It will now all be about who he can get to sign, which is now difficult with the star players gone/going, but will get easier when the first couple start to arrive, Forster & Redmond maybe plus De Vrij and Clasie ?

Also a top STRIKER IS A MUST, but no rumours we are after one yet.

Get these players in asap and things will be looking more positive again.

I don't know that a new keeper is our no.1 priority. I'm not against signing a good goalkeeper per se, and Forster has looked good in the couple of times I've seen him. But considering we're cash-poor and have to prioritise, I don't think this is our most pressing concern. For all his glaring mistakes, on the whole Boruc was a plus last season, and considering how keepers age and how rarely they get injured, I'm not sure why we're doing this.
We should be looking for another CB instead - whether Lovren stays or not - as well as another striker.

Shoudnt we put in a double swoop bit for Forster and e virj? Just wack up £20 mill for the both of them and be done with it.... then pay £6mill for redmon and we are looking much more robust and stable. We are not a poor club we do not have high wages to contend with i feel like we are being a little too tight when it comes to transfers.

Doom and gloom, relegated by February, Bookies don't share your pessimism. Only paper talk concerning Jay and Morgan. If Lovren is to be sold it is on our terms WE ARE NOT DESPERATE FOR FUNDS. Southampton is a club not in debt, like so many others are. All clubs outside the top six have trouble attracting players but we have Ronald Koeman as manager, The England goalkeeping coach, the most envied academy in the Premier league. Transfers take time, despite what the papers and BBC and Sky lead you to believe. There is no "fire sale" we have got prices way over the odds for those that have left. The transfer window doesn't close until the end of August and papers need to be sold and the websites need to have "news" on them. We are still in a better position than we were when we were promoted and that season we finished a comfortable 14th. Onwards and upwards. By the way why do Saints fans seem to think the board should be constantly informing the fans and press what's going on. Does this happen at other clubs? I haven't seen Abramovich quoted in the press on Chelsea's transfer policy or why David Luiz was sold. The manager has stated the current position, he is happy with progress towards new season why the hell can't the supporters give him some trust and faith that he knows what he is doing!!!
