Ron Vlaar will not be sold to Southampton this summer, says Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has said that defender Ron Vlaar will not be leaving the club this summer, despite being linked to Saints.

Ronald Koeman had been quoted in the Netherlands as saying the Dutch international was an option if Dejan Lovren leaves St Mary's this summer, although he distanced himself from that this week.

Villa boss Lambert has now made it clear that the 29-year-old will not be sold.

"Ron is not only an Aston Villa player, he is our captain," he said.

"He has one year remaining on his contract — and he is staying here.

"We will be talking with him in due course about extending his deal and we are confident those talks will be positive.

"Ron has always said that he is really happy here — and has done nothing to suggest anything has changed.

"None of this speculation is coming from him, or anyone connected with him. We aren't selling. It is as simple as that."

When asked about Vlaar after Monday's 1-0 friendly win at Swindon, Koeman said: "These are rumours. I didn’t say anything about Ron Vlaar. I only said I know him as a player."

I think Rons comment that he only knows the player says it all. Ron is learning that every word he says will be dissected and used to fill column inches. I think this is a press puff that has gone from molehill to mountain based nothing at all. Its a non story.

It does amuse me though that as far as the press are concerned we are prime buyers of all things Dutch. Players, kit, Feyenoord, Edam, and no doubt hash cake will be available at the food outlets in the ground. No doubt our players will all be wearing the new design mutli coloured clogs and we will all be asked to wave tulips instead of wearing Saints scarves in future.

I bet this makes RoKo laugh inwardly and hopefully he has moves afoot that the press know nothing about that will come to fruition in due course

Well, at least he said "going nowhere". Have to assume we did not say that about our departures. Money too good to refuse, perhaps?

I am trying really very hard to persuade myself to believe we ARE a signing club. We have sold more than most and probably have been linked with a lot, but only 2 as yet. I must try and cheer up and probably will as there is still 3 weeks to go. I am going to start believing in Father Christmas, again, and that should do the trick.

But, we have got red and white stripes, so very pleased about that!

I really hopes it's true. We need two good centre backs in ( now that Lovren leaves) and Vlar is simply not good enough. De Vrij is ok, and we need one more of the same caliber. And we don't need any more South American players. Gaston had to much of last season destroyed due to his travelling. He has everything goingg for him to make better performances than Lallana, if he only stays healthy and in the UK.

Well we thought that Lambert wouldn't be going anywhere but he has. Likewise several of out players. Come on Saints, lets do to others what they are doing to us. Had enough of this **** footing around, we ae getting royally screwed by LFC so time to put the boot into someone else. Why is it we cannot hold onto our players yet other clubs seem to be able to say no to us.

I was thinking about things whilst on holiday and have come to the conclusion:

Never again will I stand and sing a song dedicated to any players at Saints, not even ones that hug and kiss the badge. No point as there will never be another Le Tiss and all of them will eventually move on and understandably so where wages and ambitions go. We cannot compete with the plastics of Utd etc.

I will rock up to the games and clap when we score and cheer when the 'team' plays well but certainly will devote no efforts to individual players.

The PL, Sky and the cartel of clubs at the top of the table have killed football as far as I am concerned. Until Sky goes bust or something along those lines what is the point of the 14 or so teams that make up cannon fodder shooting practice for the top 4 - 6. Yes the money has improved stadia across the country, but the national team is dead and grassroots home grown talent is being stifled (not by us though).

You will never ever see a Fulham, Saints, Pompey, Sunderland or similar win the PL championship unless a club gets lucky ala Man City and to be honest is that what we are all about?

I think we were on to a very very good thing and with time people might reflect (and regret) that we were not commited to give it one good push.

For those saying that we are at a rebuilding stage, that is exactly where we were league one and I thought this would be the finished article and players would commit. Such a shame but not having a pop at the board other than to say we are letting certain individuals dictate the terms. As soon as Lalla walked be set the precedent that has seen other players thinking (and doing) the same.

I hope we get off to a good start of season because we are gonna require momentum I feel.

Never a truer word spoken.
There will NEVER be another Le Tiss. Sky have seen to that. Sky have single handily ruined English football. If the PL is the best league in the World, then why is the English National Team ranked 20th in the World? Because of the foreigners and money.

Don't get me wrong, I would love for something to happen, Sky to go bust maybe or for a radical change in the game but until that happens we will always be in the 14 and Liverpool will always be in the 6.

That's where we disagree. Personally I think a year of having a player of that quality in the team could save Villa from relegation or a relegation battle - to me that's good business, better than getting a quick £6 million as we mistakenly did for Rickie thinking it was good business.

Now he's back in training early showing his true professionalism - something that will give Liverpool great value because just having someone who so desperately wants to be successful rubs off on other players.

Now, Ralph Krueger, if you are reading this report, this is the way you keep your best players at the club. Strong management from Paul Lambert. Good for him, shame for Saints.

Villa & Celtic have shown and stated their players are not going anywhere. Saints only said that we did not need to sale any, big difference.

What it does show is that getting replacements will not be easy, especially at bargain prices, so like the big clubs if you want them quick you offer over the odds. Thats why we should buy first before we sale, other clubs know we have money to spend and will want to push the price up.

We missed out on Caulker who at £8m will prove to be a bargain for a 22 year old. It may take even more than £8m to get Villa to sale Vlaar who is a 29 year old.

Realities of the transfer market.

Vlar would be a great purchase who if he decides to come would probably be here until he retires but Lambert seems pretty convinced that not only will he not sell but that Vlar does not want to leave. Time to look elsewhere if that's the full picture.

I hate to keep on, but what has triggered these doubts? What makes you so certain? Have you even considered that you may have got it wrong?
There are some strong ITK indications that are going to make you look a bit foolish if their hints prove to be accurate.
Put the misery on ice for a week or too, It isn't helping the cause.

Doesn't work like that for the majority. They still retain a dream or two.
Bedwetting is unfortunate but can be cured.

Some might think "Lambert has said Vlaar isn't going anywhere so he must be available."

This is excusable - Les Reed said none of our players are going anywhere shortly before three key players f*cking left.

Some might then think that all football club bosses are like ours and talk a load of guff.

I am not so sure. Villa isn't Southampton, it may be that they mean what they say.
Time will tell, but I think SFC would be better employed sifting through the immense pile of reports that our network of scouts across the European mainland have prepared for Les. There are lots of class CBs out there, surely we can talk at least one of them to come and play for us?

(Puts head in hands).

The scouts haven't earned their crust so far...can't really see them unearthing any gems in the next tree weeks

Villa are not a big club, they area ****ty little club, in a ****hole of a city. Around the ground is like a slum as is the rest of the city. The only thing Bir-MING-ham has going for it are the transport links coming out of it! Can't imagine why anyone would want to go there, let alone stay there. The only place more ugly than Birmingham is Skatesville - thy both stink. Would love to have big Ron and Little Ron at Saints!
