Southampton chairman Ralph Krueger says the club is "categorically" not for sale

Saints are categorically not for sale.

That was the message from Saints chairman Ralph Krueger, who vehemently denied accusations that the sale of first team players this summer has been motivated by a desire to asset strip the club to recoup the Liebherr investment before a sale.

Krueger said that he had turned down ice hockey coaching jobs in the NHL to continue to head up affairs at Saints and that he would not have done that if he believed there was any chance of the club being sold.

He told the Daily Echo: “I can categorically shoot that down.

“I can speak for myself and I was offered a few National Hockey League head coach positions and I wouldn’t have stayed in Southampton to be part of a sale.

“We wouldn’t have hired Ronald Koeman, one of the great names in football, and his staff, for any reason other than working methodically in building in Southampton a competitive club.

“It’s with the backing of Katharina so the club is not for sale.”

I heard that the board were considering selling the fan base along with everything else off. I was being sold off to either Sunderland or Stoke. At least they both begin with S and they are still red and white stripes. So it could be worse.

Some will believe him, others will not, but only time will tell.

The biggest clue will be the new players (or lack of them) come Sunday. I see we're supposed to be selling Dani to Inter and might be getting Hugo Campagnaro - an aging Argentina defender - OR ..... more promisingly, young Algeria international, Saphir Taider, in part exchange.

This means that as soon as a "stupid money"offer comes in they'll all be off.

If Kruegers terms really were £27 million then that shows his comments yesterday for what they truly are .. pure bluster to stop all the grumbling.

If theres enough money on offer the whole place right down to the last blade of grass is up for grabs.

The PR department at the Saints have to come out with strong messages to their supporters and we want Koeman to speak to the media and create awareness. Look at Van Gaal, his "outburst" at his players have created positive responses even from Rooney. Even Shaw is deemed "unfit" by his standard while we were happy with him at Southampton then. Our players need Koeman to be a strong assertive manager like Van Gaal or Mourinho to motivate the current players to go and play all out for their manager.Half the battle would have been won and by the time we meet Liverhampton in Anfield in Aug, we are like a held back tiger rushing for the 'kill'. I am looking forward to that day when a full Saints team meet a part Saints team.

Once again we see the true colours of some of our fellow supporters. They'd be happier for the worst case scenario to materialise rather than admit that their expert interpretation was wrong. Give them any word or deed and they'll twist them like the nuttiest of conspiracy theorists. They scream for Ralph to make a firm statement and when he does they either complain or run round like little kids with their hands over their ears shouting "La la la. I don't believe you".

Maybe we could sell them to clubs that share their definition of "ambition" and their same "I want it all now" approach. I believe tbere's just such a club a short drive to the East.

Let's see what happens. We did need words after the silence that accompanied the recent exodus. But now we need action above all. We don't really know what's going on. We're just working off one day's news/statement after another. As things stand, we are far more likely to be fighting relegation than consolidating - let alone moving up a step. And I'm very disappointed with Morgan.

Everything on here today has got so many thumbs down. Think fellow fans need to stop bickering like nippers and get on the same page.

The reasons why people are still angry are clear to see and why people don’t believe anything their told right now I’d say is justified. Actions speak louder than words, those actions will come in time.

I listen to talksport all night last night and I will take what Kruger has said at face value until proven wrong (which the pessimist in me still thinks we will be).

What’s happened to us over the last few months can be taken anyway, good and bad. Fact is everything is just speculation right now. No one knows. It’s not just the boards fault, but the players as well, SFC needs all of us to stand up and be counted. With the eyes of the world on us right now, we need to show them what being a real football fan is like and get behind the club!

If the time comes in the near future that the club is found out to be lying and asset stripping then, voice your opinion on the facts and show the board how you feel. But until that day happens we should be getting behind the club.

P.S. I’m still angry about it all.

People absolutely love a conspiracy theory. There’s a popular one doing the rounds at the moment that the plane they shot down over Ukraine was the Malaysian one that went missing three months ago. Apparently, the Americans hijacked it and then ordered it to be flown on that flight path so that it would get blown up and it could justify a new offensive against Russia. It’s nonsense, obviously, but no weirder than some of the stuff I’ve heard on here recently.

The boring and slightly depressing truth is that there’s no way within the current laws of the game that we could have paid the wantaway players what they were offered elsewhere, even if Kat had pumped in millions extra of her own money, so our only realistic option was to sell them for the best possible price. Hopefully the sales are over and we now start to rebuild with an awful lot of cash at our disposal. It’s not impossible to think we’ll start next season with a better team than we finished last. We’ll see I guess. In the meantime, shall we try knocking all this misery on head for a bit? There’s an awful lot of stuff happening in the ‘real’ world right now that is far more deserving of people’s angst.

Admittedly board have not handled this whole situation well, and a little more communication such as that yesterday would have meant a lot more a few weeks ago.

However I for one am happy to ignore the conspiracy theories and tabloid fairy stories and take recent statements and actions at their face value until FACTS prove otherwise.

As I see it the FACTS are
1. that Cortese had a dream but the way he wanted to achieve it and in the timescale envisaged meant that's all it was
2. some of our main players bought into that impossible dream and, once those with more business sense started to bring some realism to bear, then wanted to jump ship and be part of other people's dreams (as well as enjoy the ultimately unsustainable wages that mere mortals can only dream about)
3. much as the Board and Koeman would have preferred them to stay they let them go on the basis of the ridiculous amounts of money that could then be ploughed back into building a new team in Koeman's image rather than Adkin's or Potch's.
4. with a number of good Academy players now ready to step up to the first team, plus a few quality signings, we will still have as good a team as any prospective bottom half club - and one that will only get better as its gets more experience under Koeman's guidance and as top quality additions are made as and when they are available

So yes, we may have lost the excitement of Cortese's trajectory to the stars, but we all know at heart that although such rockets soon fizzle out, their progress unsustainable

I loved the journey we've been on the last 4 years but personally I'm glad that we're now in the hands of people who, although their football acumen maybe limited, are real business people who are here to provide the rest of the PL with a real, sustainable model for success. As I see it the last couple of months has been a process of clearing the decks of unrealistic expectations and personnel who have let the first trappings of success go to their heads.

I for one am happy to see a season of consolidation and steady sustainable growth without all the hype and hysteria surrounding megabuck acquisitions and Champions league places. We could well see that in the future (I don't think Koeman will settle for less) but it will be achieved in a way that will earn Saints even greater respect than they garnered last season and make them even more a model to be copied. That's my dream and I'm happy to live with that until facts prove otherwise.

If any of us were offerred £100K a week and the chance to play for a club that is known throughout the world we would want it! Let Morgan & JRod (as he will be next) have their tantrums they either get on with it or get sold for inflated fees.

Our club has the best academy in the country, fact. We will continue to produce top quality players and we now have a war chest to by the players to fill the gaps left by last years hero's. Lets put our trust the board and manager, success is not going to be overnight but lets face it we are in the strongest position to eventually break into the top 5/6.

We’ll see I guess. In the meantime, shall we try knocking all this misery on head for a bit? All good points, and I am in broad agreement. You are to be commended.
However – be warned – you are almost certainly about to be trolled by at least five people who are convinced that the Ukraine crash story you cite is gospel truth, and at least one of those will claim that Katharina Liebherr is the brains behind the conspiracy.

Never a truer post posted. I think the one thing to come out of this summer will be that fans will no longer look upon footballers as benevolent wizards with magic at their feet and a commitment to the city and fans which mirrors the love shown them by those fans.

Extremely well put sir! You will of course now be dubbed delusional and condemned as a happy clapper - welcome to the club. We both live in the real world which is sadly not where professional footballers spend much of their time. And apparently not where a lot of Saints fans live either. Too many of them appear to want a Vincent Tan at the club rather than someone sensible and would like us to adopt the Portsmouth approach to successful management. Those of us with more sense can see the current restructuring delivering a more sustainable future for the club.

One has to ask the question, notwithstanding that most footballers are motivated by money, (although they would have you believe it's lack of ambition or for Champions league football or for some other spurious reason). Why are so many players so keen to leave the club and not only that to rubbish everything about the club as well. We know the poor things are such sensitive souls but are they being treated in the way they feel their really important status demands? for my own part and I have mentioned it on an earlier post, I was asked to provide proof of age before my season ticket (which had already been paid for) was dispatched to me as I am now a second season senior. I have been a season ticket holder for 30 odd years and seen it all at this club. Yet they take a high handed approach when in the light of the lack of renewals you think they would be biting my hand off, very strange. Also, apparently, Fonte is not impressed by the way the club has handled his new contract negotiations. Email rather than personally. If any of this is true then the club should look very closely at their own PR and embrace not alienate.

Quite clearly:
1.Kruger and co taken aback by fans back lash to the asset stripping.( as if it's somehow normal and acceptable to increase ticket pricing whilst still selling all your best players)
" we'd better put out a positive message"
2. Belatedly tells MS he's not for sale and announces this on national radio. Our hopes were raised and we had to assume the players were signed up for this.
3. But no. MS acts like a spoilt brat and can't see why he is denied his big money move.
4. Club can at lest appear to try and shut the door but in reality force the player to make the move and appear the victim.
5. MS is therefore on his way.just a question of when and for how much.
6. Another sorry mess for fans to endure, pathetic mercenary players and a board who have handled the whole sorry saga appallingly.
7. Meanwhile, we have to bring in quality players ASAP to give ourselves time to gel as a team.Still, Kruger promised every penny raised would be reinvested.
Quite clearly: 1.Kruger and co taken aback by fans back lash to the asset stripping.( as if it's somehow normal and acceptable to increase ticket pricing whilst still selling all your best players) " we'd better put out a positive message" 2. 6.

Spot on ............

I loved what NC achieved but it was a pack of cards waiting to collapse , lets now work for a sustainable future under Ronald and the Board ........

P.S Confucious : Has Mrs Wilson accepted the substantial offer from Brenda Rogers and Liverhampton ??????
Brenda offered her 50% more pay AND said they had a new Schneider OED-33S switchboard with front and rear connection alignment and thermal magnetic mains and feeders.

She told him to **** off.

That's very unusual language for her to employ I must say, but I think she's been a little stressed lately.

Totally agree, Ret. There is, however, a different point that you don't make and can be added to your post - the manner in which various people have gone about things.

It seems to me that the angst you mention (whether from so-called negs or happy clappers or sometimes both) is, to varying degrees, bourne out of the anger and frustration that things haven't always been 'done' in the right way.

1. The board
It may have had little choice but to sell, and it may well have got top dollar, but it has had a huge negative destablising impact.

2. Certain players
Morgan, Dejan and Adam may well feel justified in wanting to move - for higher pay, their international careers, more prestigious club, better chance of winning trophies and/or higher standard of football etc. but their lack of respect (especially by the two I mention who have already gone) is deplorable by any standards.

I had thought that Morgan had more class. What a pity!

I was interested listening to the interview on Talksport where KR catagoricaly said they were building to get into Europe. I wonder if he was reffering to the Champions League; or was he just talking getting to the Europa League. Be nice to know, wish he had been a little bit more explicit. Thing is, does this club realy want Europa League?......if it does then we might just get there with our current set up, ie without increasing our fan base or capacity at St Marys, particularly with Koeman as manager. An expansion maybe even be needed to accomplish this.

However; if he was talking Champions League.....well thats a completely different animal entirely. As has been stated on this forum by many, it would mean breaking the grip of the top 5 clubs; not an easy thing to do, even if we smased our wage structure and outbid the top teams for the top players. KL is not going to do that, even if she was capable of doing so. So where does that leave us. St Marys could be expanded to 50 000 capacity and lets say we could fill it......50 000 is not a big stadium, Newcasle have one of those, fill it most of the time; eh when exactly was the last time they qualifed for the CL. (Small stadium up to 35k,medium stadium up to 65k, Large stadium from 65k+).

My point is for the size of our fan base, can we realy expect to host the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich; does anyone expect this will happen in our lifetime, say in the next 30-40 years?. Would we be happy watching these Spanish or German giants at our home ground.....or would we be happier being at Wembley for an FA Cup Final in front of nearly 90 000.?
No he's been involved in a scrap of the sort that has had Osvaldo sidelined. According to the gossip sites he was in the middle of it with two others - It's just never ending.
Looks like he might have his move after all then!

*Nods sagely*

The essential problem that all of us face is that we've invested an awful lot of our happiness and well-being in the hands of a group of footballers who are, 99% of the time, little bellends with no sense of loyalty to anything other than their wallet or their penises. I'd sort of hoped our lot were different (they certainly seemed to be) but I guess I was wrong.

Never such innocence before or since as when Cortese came to town...

Above is the latest quote from an ex-Saints player now a manager talking about his star striker and that several top clubs have been sniffing around him. I think we sounded him out too.

This is how it's done and maybe this could start a trend in players having to hear the word no, not getting their own way and having to knuckle down and get on with the job they are contracted to do.

Not sure how an unprecedented loss of almost a total first team with only two untried and untested Dutch League players in could possibly pass without any comment! Thought Police rule, eh Dan?
Wake up - it's the player not the club! It is like negative posters have got into a rut where they can't see anything positive. The owner has stepped in to steady the ship , is a woman , and therefore since most of these prats who loved Nicola are sexist by default , is the target of abuse. Only total idiots would think that she is currently seeking a buyer..... it would be the worst time possible to achieve a decent price for the club... "fans" caller her "FatKat" etc etc are just embarrassing themselves and the club. They are showing how neanderthal they are. Cortese did some great things , but when it got serious he was way out of his depth.... and this will be become very obvious as the season unfolds as MoPo gets sacked by February meanwhile Saints steady the ship and build for the next 3-5 years....

so was I mostly..... but when he appointed MoPo I started to worry about him and his band of 'mates'.... also some of our signings were looking ridiculous.... Osvaldo for instance was stupid beyond words... Its worth noting that he resigned from the board that overseas the Leibherrs interests ( i.e. companies ) last year on the day Katharina was appointed to that board.... that for me said it all.

OK the Club is not for sale.

What the Fans would like is less naivety - and better management of our Players - so together as one - we all buy into the same aim of where the club is going.

Selling 5 of our first Team players was just plain stupid - no club in its right mind would do that.

Just existing in the Premiership is not good enough. The fans would like the Club to pay the existing rate to keep our Top Players and a plan to extend or add more capacity at our Stadium with a medium term aim of getting a 45,000 stadium at Stoneham.

Like Wet Spam and every other progressive Club - as fans we want SFC to be one of the Top Ten and in the top group of Clubs in the country.

DRIFTING into provincial mediocrity IS NOT AN OPTION for THE MIGHTY SOUTHAMPTON. COYR+WS

Saints did not put them up for sale - their agents, their greed, the buying clubs and the rules put them up for sale with no real choice.

COYR+WS
45k is of no use when all our competitors are going to 54k. We don't fill a 32k stadium so what would be the purpose of an extension. To extend St Mary's cost far too much, it would only make sense to knock it down and start again or find a new site but we would still come back to where are you going to find the extra bums for the now earning nothing but very costly seats.
All of the positive items you have listed - do you really think the management team would not wish all of that for themselves too - now who is being naive. Drifting into mid table may not be an option but it is an inevitability unless the FA etc decide to clip the wings of the vultures and the likelihood of that is about what?
We could not pay the sort of money required to keep all of that team together - the rules say no. They wanted to go so we had no real choice but to try and get top whack for them and we've done alright out of that.

F.A. cup for me all day long. I fcuking hate the Champions league.

I agree with much of what you say, but is very hard to be positive. If saints never wanted to sell their top players, then they should have simply said no from day 1. We didn't need the money and they were all on long contract. Poor management, open the door to 1 and others will see greener grass
Yes but it's almost impossible to keep a player that doesn't want to stay.

The simple fact is Saints may have been able to delay their transfer but we could not have stopped it. We could not increase their wages by any great amount, their agents were agitating for a move, they had almost certainly been tapped up and their heart (or heads) were no longer with the club.
Now please tell me what else the club could have done.

They did the next best thing to saying no they commanded a price beyond their true worth and stuck to it - great business. Also great whinge materal for fans who can't be bothered to find out the true story so just launch into a tirade of utter stupidity. Engage brain before making accusations please.

Lets' face it if you were offered double your salary or more for doing the same job in a profession that has a very limited time span you would snap there hand off.
Saints have been a victim of their own success and whilst the club I am sure didn't want to sell anyone, RK is right, he doesn't want anyone in his squad who doesn't want to play for the club.
We are a fighting club ( metaphorically! ) and we will get by on what we have. O.K so getting into Europe now is definitely out but there is no reason why we can't stay in mid table premiership and enjoy giving the big clubs a surprise kicking from time to time.
C'mon guys, lets get behind the Club and I am convinced there will be some sunny days ahead.
