Fraser Forster is on the verge of completing his move to Saints after undergoing a medical with the club.

Saints have agreed a fee with Celtic, believed to be about £10m, and after today’s 1-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, manager Ronald Koeman confirmed a deal was close.

“Of course we are interested, of course he did the medical tests, but for yesterday afternoon I have not spoken to the board and maybe when I go up for a drink they will tell me that,” said Koeman.

“For sure we are interested but I didn’t hear he has signed.”

Koeman also confirmed reports that Saints have had a bid rejected for Leeds right back Sam Byram, rumoured to be in the region of £4.5m.

However, he is not sure whether the club will increase their offer or move on.

“We are after that, we lost Chambers to Arsenal, it was a player we had on the list and it’s true that we had a bid for him, yes,” confirmed Koeman.

“What I heard was that Leeds didn’t accept it.”

Koeman was also satisfied with his side’s display in their final friendly of the summer, despite defeat.

“In general yes, it was a good match on a good level against a good Champions League opponent, Leverkusen,” he reflected.

“I think we didn’t deserve to lose and the goal they scored was very lucky for them and very unlucky for us.

“I think in the first 45 minutes we had the better chances to score but in some moments in the match we have to know that we have to play quicker, that we have to be more aggressive and the last 15-20 per cent in a good way prepared for the next week.”

We appear to have an abundance of midfielders which will give us good cover for injuries. We had little strikes at goal, and although Pele tried hard he was out muscled by the BL centre backs.
Was it me but there was just no atmosphere at the game today, or are we missing the away support who always seem to make more noise than us?

Atmosphere at Nottarf is always great, you would enjoy it much more than the graveyard shift at St Marys, off you go now.

It was a half empty stadium in a meaningless friendly, hardly conducive to creating a cauldron. The Northam need more choir practice though. Never heard a peep from the Chapel End.

Looking at the team today we are screaming out for a Top Quality goal-scoring STRIKER.
Also at least TWO Top Quality CB's, Maya looked suspect but OK for cover.
Jose played well but we need to have two even better ones.

Of the new players; Pelle looked OK as a target man but I don't think he will score as many as Ricky; Tadic looked OK but was well short of Lalana's usual contribution. The two loanees, Bertram and Taider looked the better two of the four, but all four did NOT look any better than we already have in the squad, eg Davis, Wanyama & Cork looked our best midfielders.

Unfortunately Isgrove did not look the part yet, best send him out on loan to gain more experience and toughen him up. JWP also needs to up his game this season.

Summary is we lacked a cutting edge and that extra bit of quality. Also lacked our usual energy & fitness level.

Also I missed the pressing passing game that we got used to last season.

Must try to keep Morgan and sign Jordy Classie.

Keep working on it Les spend most money on a STRIKER and CB urgently.

COYR&WS We need to up our game for next week.

A bit unfair on Isgrove, he has pace, he has skill, but of course when defenders see that, a well aimed mistimed tackle soon slows this type of player down, which was the case today, if he can strengthen up a bit and get wise to the antics he could go far.

The trouble is Boruc is top quality - there aren't many better than him and those few that are will not be coming to us in a hurry. Forster is as good and the competition between them should be good for the team and maybe help Gazzaniga and Cropper develop. Agree a quick,, mobile sniffer is needed plus two CB's and maybe a RB.

Yeah, can never understand the preference of Wanyama over Cork. Disappointed not to see Cork in starting lineup, he is class. Wanyama can't seem to pass a ball and when he does, it's backwards.

Not negatives I think you summed it up about right, had some prats behind us moaning about Pelle, he didn't have a brilliant game but worked hard on his own against at times three defenders, he wins quite a lot and if you had a player working off him we would score goals..

I think i saw a different game than NC for life.

I thought we playd the ball forward by quick inter passing with Tadic doing his fair share of the work. I thought we were equal to the opposition and only an unlucky goal split the two sides. We do need a striker that can feed off of Pele's flick ons and at least one C B. Come the end of OCTOBER our squad will match most of the other teams in the league and i feel a top ten finish this year.

We need a few more players, CB and a striker to feed off Pelle and at times offer another option.

But considering all the upheaval and changes I thought we were more than equal to a good Bundesliga top four side.

Well done to RK and the team.

You could say Fonte did well as Captain, Clyne did well too, Bertrand looked useful in his first home game, Maya was a limited success, JWP did his usual thing, although a bit too defensive, Vic was a brick outhouse as always, Steve Davis not at his best, Tadic better on the right in the first half but oozes class, Pelle worked hard won a lot of high balls which all went to waste, Isgrove pacy and skilfull but a bit lightweight, Cork efficient for his short stint, Taider first impressions were good, Gaston looked interested and some nice touches, Mayuka quick but a bit clueless, can do better, Artur not troubled much, no chance with the OG. Hooiveld never put a foot wrong, but that is being a bit too positive, it must have been bad as we lost.

It would be easier to give up smoking, but I have never started that.

The new management team have done exceedingly well conisidering the time that Roko has had to get a working squad together, when these players have jelled Saints will be a force to reckon with.
Have no fear Saints are back, there are still a few players to be "weeded out" but I guess that has to be done to enable us to bring more (more fire power would be nice) COYMS

A game which showed ALL the faults, all the weakness. Put that right and you have a good team.NOW how about getting these players we are short on les, I don't suppose you read any comments on these sights, But IF you were at the game even YOU would see what is LACKING.

I am having a neggie spasm, I cannot find todays Daily Mirror knock down story about the new current disaster or scandal to hit the Club, whenever we a have a good news story it is usually their duty to give us a new reality check, where is it?
