Good to see Ramirez on the bench. No point risking Spider in this game as we will need him at the weekend.
Also good to see Isgrove getting some game time.
I reckon Gardos will be given a run out if we are in control early on.
Our bench actually looks very strong which is another good sign.

Hands up if you voted that the tie would end in a draw?

We'll never all agree 100% with each other, and few will agree 100% with all 18 players in a manager's selection. For example, I'd have preferred to see Cork start this one and would have liked to see Harrison Reed involved. However, we can all agree that we want a win and would like to see Long and Pelle on the score sheet.

Interesting. On the same day that the Echo posts a comment lambasting Poch for treating the cups with insufficient respect, they send what is plainly a junior hack to make infrequent updates on today's match. Compare with the coverage of Saturday's (relatively non-vital) Baggies match. Much though a rainy night in Bermondsey must be a difficult sell, smacks a little of hypocrisy, doesn't it?

I'd say he's just resting the odd player. Had I not heard Spider 'had a small knock' I'd say the same for him, but sounds like a fake injury to me. Hopefully not.

The lack of Taider tonight is concerning, especially considering his lack of any sort of game time so far, though I guess we don't know what his fitness was like when he joined.

As for Florin, can only imagine they are keen to protect his hamstring, especially as fonte and maya are doing OK. No rush.

Nice little finish by the way and most of his many misses weren't horrible - well hit most of them (including a nice little back heel and a shot he tried to place too much in the top corner), just that his luck was out. Technique is all there. When the confidence comes, and it will, he's going to be good I tell you. Come on the Saints. Nice easy draw please - we want to win this thing.

So happy for Pelle's goal, like I was the scorer. Hope that this will boost his confidence at the upcoming games, because it's obviously that Koeman has a lot rescpect for him. Another quality play from Tadić, sure he enhanced the Saints game in the second half tonight. Southampton defenders need to play more in front balls, not to play a lot of time in their own half, but Koeman will correct this issue soon enough, hope so. Best luck against WHU, which fan I really am, Hammers have a lot of fans from Serbia, where I'm from.

Agree, but based on the summer upheaval the current games can be considered as similar to a usual pre-season Ospers - certainly Tadic and Pelle are getting used to a totally different pace and competitive standard and Long has been training with his team mates for a fortnight, probably sorting his move down here at the same tme.

I know that's far from ideal, but that's always how it was going to be following the mass exodus.

Not sure if the reasonably easy fixtures early on will be a good thing - I think if we were hosting a big team early on it would take the pressure off the new players a little (similar to MoPo's start when he had a few fixtures everyone knew would be tough).

Let's hope that gets him started on a good season of goals and before we get started on its only Millwall I have watched Utd get absolutely dicked by MK Dons while following this on the echo or trying to follow.
Pelle scored and Saints win first game of the season....I'll drink to that!
Sorry I was slow then, I owe you a beer, perhaps we will have to have similar fall outs, make ups and bets for the rest of the season.
If Saints keep winning and Pelle keeps scoring there won't be any fall outs but we may end up alcoholics!

Must have missed that - was it his wrist? He seemed to fall on it. Hopefully nothing bad as I'd like him to get a good run of games early, rather than dipping in and out of the team as he's unfortunately had to at previous clubs.

On the plus side, if the events of the last week force our hand on an extra strike signing it might be a blessing in disguise.

It is, of course, possible, that Jack just doesn't want to sign. There's no way to force a player to sign if they just want away (for whatever reason).

That said, I've rated him since the scales fell from my eyes halfway through the league one promotion season.

Yes they did. Modern fans feel the need to make knee jerks absolute opinions for some reason. I think they listen to Adrian Durham too much and don't realise he is just a professional tool. They said Lallana and JayRod weren't premium standard after a few weeks. But to condemn Pelle as Championship at best before half time in his 2nd game takes being an impatient idiot to a new level. Why they do it god only knows.

I think that is very likely. It' a no brainer. Why would we allow a player who is obviously worth millions to just run his contract down. I'd say it's very likely that discussions have taken place and Jack has declined. Shame. He's outstanding.

That's my take on it too, at least that was the case a couple of weeks ago. Personally I rate him very highly and of two possible scenarios: let cork go cheap and force Morgan to stay; or flog Morgan for £20m + and sign up Corkie - I would go for the latter.

Glasgow is the Scottish equivalent of London - a sprawling metropolis full of pubs, clubs, shops and restaurants. I think it's great, was drinking there last night on the way home (I currently live in deepest Ayrshire). I don't think the Celtic fans appreciated my cries of "Ronald Koeman's red and white army!" whilst watching their side get dumped out of the same competition twice in a month...
